My cat, Ollie, likes to go to my fish bowl, and then open and close his mouth like he's eating, then jump on it.....share your cats' habits, too!

Back at my boyfriend's mom's house, Luke would absolutely lose his mind sometimes after using his litter box. He'd jump out, zoom up the stairs, run into my room with his eyes wide and tail puffed up, and then just look at me and wait. If I made even the slightest movement he'd run back down the stairs again. He still runs out of his box in the evenings sometimes at the apartment, and I usually make a game out of it by hiding from him and chasing him around when he finds me. He loves it.

It's difficult to say whether this was the cat's weird habit or if it was my Mother's!

Many years ago I was waiting for the school bus and suddenly didn't feel very well. I quickly went back home, walked in the door and went straight to the bathroom... where I got the shock of my life!

I found my Mother, fully dressed, lying flat on her back in the bathtub, arms down at her sides and her eyes closed! She immediately said, "Shhhhhhhhhhh! Be very quiet and don't move"! Not that I could really say anything or move anyway, I stood there staring at her in disbelief.

All of a sudden our cat, a black Persian, came bolting into the bathroom, eyes ablaze, reached into the bathtub and slapped my Mom. Then, just as quickly, he darted out.

Mom opened her eyes, laughed and emerged from the tub. But what she did next is the 'weird' part.

She got down on her hands and knees and proceeded to crawl out the door, down the hallway, through the living room and into the kitchen... all the while snooping in corners, behind doors and under furniture. Still a bit stunned and confused, I quietly followed her.

Once in the kitchen, she slowly opened the pantry door and yelled, "Gotcha"!  In a flurry the cat scampered out, jumped over her back and flew away... and Mom turned and started crawling through the house into the bedroom, where she climbed up on the bed and covered herself completely with the blanket and lay quiet and still as a statue.

Within seconds, the cat sprinted in and jumped on the bed and flopped himself on top of her.

Finally, I asked her what the heck was going on!

"We're playing Hide-and-Seek! Why aren't you at school"?

I told her that I wasn't feeling very well, but after seeing 'this', I think she cured me! I stayed home and had a very good day with Mom and the cat!

I learned that this was what they did every morning after everyone else left the house for school or work. Not so weird after all, right?

My cat does this thing where he stands up on his hind legs, raises his "arms", puts his front paws together like he's praying, and then waves both paws up and down together while trilling. It looks like he's either begging for something, or praying fervently lol.

I do I interpret it as a "please?" gesture because he usually does it when he wants something, like permission to jump into my lap (not that he really needs permission), but other times he just does it randomly.

He also talks, and talks, and talks...as far as I know he's a moggie, just a classic gray tabby, but he's so vocal I sometimes wonder if he has some breed or wild blood. He constantly trills and makes sounds like "Hmmmm?" and "rrrrrrr!" If I say "Hey Bud!" he'll respond with a "Hrrrrrrrmm?" And if he sees something like a butterfly outside the window he carries on a conversation with himself for 20 minutes. The weird thing is, he's a year and a half old now, and he still "mews" in a way that sounds more like a kitten than an adult cat.

What strikes me, as a first time cat servant, is how unique and complete his personality is. It really says a lot about cats and how intelligent they are.

Comet scratches at his litter box incessantly. And after he uses it, he scratches everything in reach: the end of the box, the carpet, the wall, the door (which with his soft claws creates this fingernails on the chalkboard sound).

I think he has OCD.

Sasha, my 9 year old, likes to burrow her head into my hand when she sits on my lap. I always like to imagine that she is using my hand to block out the light for her nap. Lol. Kyubi, my 1 year old, cranes his neck around and around when he's interested in something. It could be as simple as me walking towards him while he's watching me. It looks really funny.

Starbuck only likes to be picked up by her daddy when he is upstairs.  She will walk up to him and put her paws on his legs as signal that she wants his attention.  He picks her up and holds her like a baby.  She starts grooming his face and purs like crazy. If she is not picked up fast enough she starts meowing.  She will only do this with daddy.  She is almost 10 and has been doing this since she was six weeks old.  She will only groom my face when I am in bed asleep and she can wake me up.  If she is downstairs she will run away if he tries to pick her up.  The only time I can pick her up is to take her to bed with me.  She will snuggle like this for a least 30 minutes or longer if she falls asleep on daddy. On Monday's she gets mad when daddy goes back to work and will ignore him for most of the night.

Casey who is a little over a year old will come and nuzzle under hubby's chin when he gets ready to sleep.  If my hubby does not get in bed and immediately lay down without a shirt on under the blankets with his CPAP mask on  he will run away.  He does not sleep on hubby though.  He gets his lovings and will sleep on top of the headboard on my side of the bed.  He also greets everyone at my door and demands attention.  One time when we were out of town Casey was asleep when my cat sitter showed up one time and he did not greet her at the door she went through my entire house looking for him and as she was walking around he came running up to her talking and stretching.  She was afraid he had snuck out or was trapped somewhere.  My cat sitter has cats that are door darters so she is really good about not accidentally letting anyone out.  She showed me how to keep Casey from running outside when I would open my front door when he was a kitten.  He never went anywhere except for the front porch but I did not want him outside at all. Fortunately he outgrew that bad behavior and now waits for people to come inside to greet them.

When I get in bed my six year old Sonny comes on lays on my chest once I am under the blankets.  He grooms me for a little while and then goes to sleep at the bottom of the bed near my feet.  He will go and visit my hubby when he comes to bed but never grooms hubby's face.

Apollo is 3 years old.  He will sometimes come upstairs and order me to bed when he wants attention.  He will sleep on me briefly usually but prefers to sleep on top of the loveseat downstairs.  Once in a while he will stay on the bed and sleep on my legs. He will visit my hubby but does not sleep on him.  If I am downstairs laying down watching tv he will sleep on me for hours if I do not move. Apollo also greets me on the couch when I get home from work most days.  When I go back to work after I have two days off in a row he ignores me when I get home for a few hours and will go greet my hubby at the door with Casey.

our foster cammie is so in love with every kitten on earth. we fostered a litter this summer and every time they got in the litter box, they couldn't get out, and would start wailing. cammie would meow back at them and go and carry them out of the box. then, one of them fell into a bucket of mop water and she stood and tried to fish the kitten out while mewing. then, another foster had kittens.. and she left them around the room, kinda clueless, cammie went and cleaned the kittens up, ate their placenta and put them in the basket with her kittens. i can't get over how sweet and motherly she is.

We had a big Maine coon mix "Shushy" he would play tag with my wife almost everyday. My wife would be sitting reading or watching T.V. and Shushy would run up and smack her then take off stopping to look back at her, if she didn't get up he would run back and smack her again until she got up to play with him. He also enjoyed a good game of fetch regularly. He was a great cat. He was also the family security guard, when we had visitors they would have to be "introduced" to Shushy, he would come out and look the guest over and decide if he would tolerate them or not, if he decided not you were getting smacked or maybe even nipped on the ankle!!
