I know this has been covered before but I am in desperate need of some help.
I am caring for a female cat from a local rescue..
I bought her home to try and help her with her chronic diarhea. I have had her to the vets all she did was give antibiotic shots! Told me to put her on a diet of boiled chicken. That worked for couple of days, her poo started to become semi -firm, then she stopped eating the chicken. Back to the vet who gave her another antibiotoc shot and suggested low carb biscuites.
She still has runny poo, it is burning all the hair of off her bottom, tail and the back of her legs.
Because she is from rescue I have to keep asking permission to take to their vet.
I would like to take her to my vet but Im on a pension and rescue dont like it if you go elsewere.
Can anyone give me some constructive advice.
Also would it be safe to give her human probiotics?

Has the rescue organised any testing to see what the underlying cause of the loose stools are? Is she being regularly wormed? Any sudden diet changes?

Loose stools are often caused by parasites and she should really be tested, if she hasn't already, to rule them out

I agree she needs to be tested for parasites if that hasn't been done. And yes, it is safe to give her human probiotics. It's a good idea to do that since she has been on antibiotics.

My cat is 7 years old and I have had him since he was a kitten. He has CONSTANT loose stools. Vet has given powder probiotics and nothing helps. It is a problem as his fecal matter sticks to his hindquarters and then is transfered to anything he sits on. He is not dehydrated and is playful and active. I am soon to move into new home with new furniture. I don't know what to do as I have tried everything. Vets (more than one) feels it is normal for him so no worries... Any magical suggestions.

Has he been de-wormed? Can you tell us what his diet is like? What type of food and the brand? Wet food or dry?

Yes he has been dewormed. (In the last 3 mos)
Was feeding Blue Wilderness Indoor, switched to Fancy Feast canned as Vet gave probiotics and it mixes better with wet food. I have been feeding him this for 4 weeks at least and there is no change. He is active and shows no signs of dehydration. the Blue Wilderness helped with the smell, but nothing else. I have noticed with the Fancy Feast there does not seem to be any worsening of odor. He has had this problem forever. I got him as a kitten and he is now 7 years old. It is problematic because the loose stools stick to his hind end and transfer to anything he sits on. (Furniture, bed, pillows, tables etc., you get the picture) I am soon moving to a new home with new furnishings and will be closer to grandchildren who will be visiting often and need to stop this fecal matter on everything.

I was going to suggest you try wet food, but you already are. My cats eat Fancy Feast too. Have you tried a little dry food along with the wet? My cats eat both. Like I'll give each cat half a can of Fancy Feast and 1/8 cup dry food three times a day. Hopefully someone else will come along that has more ideas.

I am using s. boullardi 1 full capsule am and pm daily mixed into some warmed up baby food, she licks it off the spoon and this has completely resolved any soft poops. Be careful warming up the baby food, it heats up super fast, like 6 seconds in microwave is all you need and always test first before you give it to them to eat. I get the gerber turkey and gravy or chicken and gravy baby food in the tiny jars.

I bought some Hill's Science Diet for Sensitive Stomach today (someone here had used that and it worked for them) I will try mixing it with the Fancy Feast and still use the probiotics. He is such a sweet fellow, but it's hard to deal with the mess.

Thank you. I am willing to try anything. I'm assuming the s.boullardi is a type of probiotic?

Is the Hills a wet or dry food? I put the dry food on a separate plate, I don't mix it with the wet. Yes, S. Boulardii is a probiotic.

Hi!

yes, it's a probiotic. If you google s. boullardi for cat with soft poop you will find lots of articles - it's literally been the only thing that has helped get my cats poop formed and solid. I tried many of the animal probiotics and they didn't help either.
