I read that you should not only feed your cat dry food, which among many cats I have had, the last one only ate dry food and lived to be only 14 years old, and was an outside cat. I made many mistakes with him. I am not making those same mistakes with my precious Lily girl - inside cat. I feed her Nutri Source dry food and I also feed her Dave's wet food. I was feeding her Wellness, but got to be $1.69 a can and the feed store, so I had to find a cheaper brand. She is an 8 lb cat and I feed her 1/3 cup of dry food and 1/2 5 oz can wet food a day.

I feel you have to feed a cat both. The dry food to keep their teeth exercising and wet food so they get enough water and don't get a UTI.

I am just trying to make sure my Lil Lily gets the nutrition she needs.

Cat food and nutrition is a real minefield - and you can find some pretty polarised opinions on all sides of the debate. The fact is that now long term studies have been done to prove that one type of diet is better than another.

There is nothing wrong with feeding kibble - you just have to be aware that most cats won't drink enough to compensate for the lack of moisture, so it'd important to take extra measures to keep them hydrated. The easiest way to do this is to add extra water to the wet food - a tabespoon or so is fine, but some cats like it even wetter. Water fountains are another good trick. There are more ideas in this article [article="30756"][/article]

Its a personal decision on what to feed a cat. Many people here advise against feeding only dry food but there are people who have to feed at least some dry for various reasons. As long as the food that you are feeding are labeled as complete balanced diets, your cat is getting the proper nutrition.

Dry food really doesn't help with dental health as many people believe. Cats just crunch once or twice and swallow the pieces whole. That's not going to help to 'scrape" stuff of the teeth. Kind of like you  crunching on a hard pretzel a few times to clean your teeth. Some people give their cats chunks of raw meat and gizzards and such for dental health and to excercise the jae muscles. For those who can't or won't do raw, there are cat dental chew toys and such that work in a similar way. I don't know if Kitty Kong is still made (a smaller purple version of the well known dog toys) but it works great to excercise a cat's jaw.

Thanks, I do have a water fountain. My car is weird, never plats with any toys I buy her, but throw a plastic lid across the floor she lives it. Also loves to go for walks on leash and harness. The dry food I feed her is nurti source
