I'm an old mom. My first born boy goes to public kindergarten tomorrow. My heart breaks but it soars that he will learn.

Aww!
I forgot our kiddos are the same age.  We decided to go a different route with our family and homeschool; but I still got emotional starting school with DD.  She is on her 3rd week and loving it!

I hope your lil guy has a great first day!

I have a son that started kindergarten last week. He's my 3rd child and only son :). It's bittersweet to say the least, sending him off all day but kindergarten is fun and that's what I focus on. I also have 2 daughters one just started college last week [emoji]128541[/emoji] and the other is a 10th grader... Talk about an old mom lol :)

My daughter just started her junior year of college. Only 5 more to go and she'll have her master's.

Oh don't worry; you certainly aren't alone in that these days!  One of my friends has a daughter who is a senior in high school this year.  And a 2 year old.  It seems to be really common now!

Unless she ends up like my cousin; going for a 2nd masters.  I told her she had been in college as long as it took to get through public school!
She actually had to do it though; for the field she wanted to work in.  They changed requirements on her.

My daughter's orchestra teacher at the high school has 2 kids.  His oldest is 21 and a senior in college.  The youngest is a freshman at the same college my youngest daughter is at   In April- they found out they were pregnant and due in October.  My daughter who was in his class at the time, asked me "Mom- is this going to happen to you"?  Um NO!

I have a senior in college who will hopefully graduate in May with a Music Ed degree.  She keeps saying she wants a Master's and maybe even a doctorate.  That's fine.  However- she decided to go to a private college- very good choice for her but very pricey.  We told her that she needs to work a couple of years and pay off the loans from the last 4 years of college before she goes any further.

We have one daughter who is starting grade 12 this year. She's never going to have a sibling. Once in a while I feel bad about that but then I think of my brother and I'm good.

I have a 9 year old, a 6 year old, and a 3 year old. We're home all day, since we homeschool.

We got chosen to dog sit for my in laws since we're home a lot, so in addition to our felines, we get to have a canine to spoil this weekend. They have an adorable toy poodle that weighs less than my kitties.

I feel old now, I'm 45 and have a 3 year and 5 year old.
I would love to homeschool but my 5 year old doesn't like to sit still long for me and my 3 year is a high needs toddler.

Does she need a masters to teach in a school setting?  (If that is where she wants to use her degree.)  I was told teachers need one; within so many years of earning your bachelors and beginning teaching.  I think certain subjects do not not require that though.  My friend who told me this teaches technology at a middle school.  She went back to school in her mid/late 20s and is in her 2nd full year of teaching now (after going straight through to earn her bachelors and masters).

Probably because he is a boy.
I don't think they are made to sit still until THEY are ready to.

My 5 year old DD is pretty good; but it's her personality.  School only takes about 90 minutes and that includes some stuff where we get up and move.  I know a few people who break up the sit-down work during the day; but DD does better getting it all done at once (and so do I!).  My 3 year old DS thinks he NEEEEEDS to be involved and he is all over in his seat.  It's making it hard for DD to do handwriting work because he shakes the table.  But DS thinks he is big stuff and he is learning too; so I'm trying to be patient.  And to find things he can/will do; but under no pressure except to let DD get her work done or he will have to leave the room.  I'm trying to find ways to keep them learning; while accepting where they are at developmentally.  I've always heard how my DH had an awful time in Kindergarten because he wasn't really ready to be there.  He had to repeat and in his sister's words; he was a different kid the 2nd time.

The nice thing with public school is some kids will do things for other people that they wont with parents.  And I don't think that ever stops.
My step-siblings gave my mother a hard time.  Back then my mother was a job development specialist for a non-profit; so she got to know a lot of the employers in the area.  My step-siblings bosses always raved over what great employees they were.  And mom said she would think "My kids!?"
My SIL always seems like the most patient, gentle person out there.  Super caring and giving.  And she always tells me that she couldn't do it; she doesn't have the patience.  I'm sure there will be plenty of days when I have to search for the patience!
It is a daunting task for me.  I'm just trying to take it one bit at a time for now.

Not to teach initally.  I'm hoping she'll just graduate in May and then teach for a bit and pay off the student loans for the private school she was at
I tease her about it, but in all seriousness I don't think she would have done as well as she did at a huge in-state school.  One idea she's had was getting a degree in Music Therapy.  I looked into a Special Ed degree (at this point in my life it's more work than it's worth).  The HR director said that many people who have arts degrees/backgrounds tend to work very well with children who are diagnosed with Autism.  I could see her doing that.

And I do mean HUGE in state school.  My youngest started her freshman year at a huge school- her class had 4500 incoming freshman !!

Our son will be 43 this year, married with two children. We have a grandson and a granddaughter. Our son went to college and graduated with a degree in Physics. And he works in the banking business....go figure.

It's very common nowadays. My first granddaughter is 17 and her sister, my second granddaughter, is 16 months.

Thanks. I can't believe she's 3 already and Hudson will be 1 next month. Time goes too fast.
Time certainly does fly. My eldest grandchild, a girl, will be in the army next year. It is amazing.
As long as they are all healthy, right?

Music therapy is great!!  I've been following the progress of a teenage boy who had a TBI with a skateboarding accident.  He is recovering well and from the updates; the music therapy has been really beneficial to him!  They also have been bringing in animals to the rehab facility.  I think that might be an enjoyable field to work in.

Happy birthday to your big girl!!
