My 7 1/2 year old cat has had diarhea and vomiting all summer long. It started after i changed her food but has not stopped. My vet has done numerous tests, stool, blood, sonogram and xrays and can find nothing wrong and has diagnosed IBD. She prescibed prescription diet i/d dry food but my cat wont eat dry food since getting sick. She barely eats wet food and when she does she usually throws up. She has lost lots of weight and im very concerned and distressed. The vet also prescribedMetronidazole which didnt help and steroids which havent helped either. Im at my wit's end. Please help!

Normally an ultrasound is excellent at determining IBD, however it is only as good as the person performing it is.

Unless they are highly skilled and perform these on a very regular basis, chances are you might not get a proper reading.

If this were my cat, and I do have one now with IBD, I would stop all foods now. The only thing for the next 3 days should be turkey only baby food mixed with water, warmed up.

Not chicken, turkey.

At least 2 jars of food a day, more if she will take it. 3 is just about the right amt of calories an average cat needs daily.

This will allow that tummy and insides to settle down and stop reacting to what foods are going in right away.

It's very, very mild and easily digested, which is why it's ideal for getting the GI tract calmed down.

Then I would slowly start adding in some canned food. This would be either Nature's Variety Instinct limited ingredient turkey canned, or Blue Buffalo limited ingredient diet turkey canned.

If she won't eat these, an alternative is fancy feast turkey and giblets classic, which is pate and comes in the olive green and white can.

See how she does from there.

If she does well, you can try to start giving her a dish of the same exact food as above but the dry version if you want to or need dry in her life.

I had tried baby food before when the vet suggested it to hide her meds in. She didnt eat but they werent meat only, they were turkey dinner and chicken noodle soup. Ill try the meat only variety. I have nature's variety dry food now, among 4 other brands that she wont eat. She'll very little of nutro's wet canned food or tuna, what little she keeps down. Since getting sick she wont eat dry food
