Comet (9 months) is afraid of me.
I broke my ankle and leg 4 days ago, and it's in one of those huge velcro boots. I have people coming over to make sure he's fed and to clean the litter but he runs
every time I say his name or get out of my chair. He thinks the crutches are a great play toy when I walked with them (at first I just had a splint, he wasn't afraid) but now he's scared of me since I got the boot this morning. I feel bad, I want to cuddle with him and play, but he doesn't want anything to do with me.

I'm so sad. I suppose he just needs time to adjust, but he's still a baby, I don't want to traumatize him or anything.

Ouch! Broken ankle and leg. What an utter pain! And just when you could use a lap full of Comet, he's too scared of the boot. Can you play with him from the chair? The laser toy is great for that and afterwards you can give him a few treats to make the experience even better. Sometimes I play with wand toys from my chair, too so that's another option.

Hopefully he'll soon get over his fear!

Could you get his yummiest treats and lay a trail leading onto the boot itself? If he associates it with food and good things he might stop being scared of it. Spraying it with Feliway might help too. I hope you heal soon.. Don't worry about Comet - he WON'T be permanently traumatised by this, I promise you. Kittens are actually incredibly adaptable. He'll be back giving you cuddles before you know it. :vibes:
