I'm new here so will jump right in with my question

I'm wanting to adopt a 3rd cat. My 2 boy cats are about 4 years old and neutered.

What would the pros and cons be to get another male kitten or would a female kitten offer better dynamics?

Truth is - I'm the sort that lets the kitten pick me so I'm not sure it will matter but thought I'd ask what others experiences have been with bringing a 3rd cat into the mix. :)

I'm really thrilled to find this site…so much great information!

In my personal experience it hasn't mattered what the sex was of a new kitty, they all end up spayed or neutered anyway. I recommend you choose how you always have, personalities and introductions are more important than gender. :)

A boy would most likely blend right in, (although I think you should get TWO to rough house together
) a girl most likely will be a 'princess' and bossy around them. (which she would LOVE!) If you would have had two girls I would have recommended a boy, girls try to hard to rule the roost! Of course this is just from my 50 years of owning cats, I may have just had some 'divas'!

Thanks so much! Your comment is very validating! I'm sure there is a kitten calling me to him/her!

(figuring out how threads flow…hope this one is in the right place!)

Di and Bob! I WISH I could bring home another pair of siblings but alas…my apartment is spacious with lots of places to run and hide I'm afraid the management here might start paying too much attention to me - for some reason 3 cats doesn't seem as much as 4 :)

Another question then….my 2 Big Boys are pretty independent. They allow me to have them on my lap when THEY decide (of course!) but I'd like to have someone who likes to be picked up now and then and maybe is more attached to me….

Any ideas there?

In all my years of being owned by cats, the males were always more affectionate then the females. The girls were always 'bossy' to the boys and were more independent. You really have to 'evaluate' the kitten before you bring it home, a warm loving little soul usually is that way from the beginning, although some just need love and attention. The noisy, 'wild' ones usually remain that way too. Some cats are definitely more laid back then others, they always have a definite personality all their own. Bless you for giving another little soul a loving home!

Ahhhh! Thats the sort of information that will be helpful to me! Thank you Di and Bob!

I'm putting out my "kitty find me" feelers and trusting that the right kitten will find me!

I like to go and visit…just sit and observe….your tips are very helpful!!

"A warm loving little soul"…..yes indeed!

A quick update: as things go....my kitten found me! A 12 week old boy. Himalayan/Persian is what I was told his breed is. The family just couldn't keep him and Ihad the good fortune to stumble across their pet posting in theical Craigslist right after she posted it.

I'd like to introduce you to Henry Greyson. Henry was my daughters idea but it felt like he needed a last name - his fur is fluffy grey so he became Henry Greyson although he goes by Henry. :)
