Hi. My cat escaped from my house about 8-9 weeks ago, and when I found her a couple of days later she was in heat. About 5 weeks after she escaped, I started to suspect that she was pregnant because her abdominal area was expanding at a very rapid rate. As the weeks went on, I started to believe that she was bloating due to worms (is that even possible?). Tonight, I felt her kittens moving for the first time, confirming her pregnancy. I have a few concerns, however. She is just shy of a year old. Does that put her at a higher risk for complications during birth? She has a mucousy- brown discharge around her anus/vulva area, and I can't tell which it is coming from. What could be causing this? Also, based off of the information I have provided, could anyone give me a rough estimate on when I should expect kittens? Also, please do not preach to me on how I should have already had her spayed. She has always been safe inside, and away from Tom cats. She escaped during moving. Things happen.

I am guessing the discharge is from her vulva. When did you first notice it? How much is there? Does it look like the brown is from blood?

Are her nipples pink and protruding? Is she showing any other signs of nesting or labor?

Post a picture of your cat if you can.

Here are a few articles that will be helpful.  The third one is an overview of the birthing process and very informative.  There are more specific articles at the top of this forum.

Is this discharge continuing? Can you clean the area with a damp cloth to determine if it's still occurring and if it's her anus or vulva?

If it's from her vulva she may need to see a vet. She could have an infection that could threaten her pregnancy and her health if not treated.

Please let us know.
