Another food question:  I was feeding only Rad.  The natural pet store said primal was better than Rad.  They did not have Primal Chicken so I ordered instinct chicken. I just read another thread & people were talking about fruits/veg in Primal.  Is this true?  If so I was sorry I ordered it in large quantities.  Both are cheaper than Rad; not the mess of Rad.  Thought I was doing a good thing.  What do you guys think?

We feed our cats a lot of freeze-dried Primal: that and Rad Cat are our cats' favorite foods. Although I generally don't like feeding the cats fruits and vegetables, I'm not concerned about them in Primal. The biggest thing is that the foods are low-carb: there are no potatoes or peas. Beyond that, the produce, much of which is organic, is used for nutrients, meaning there are very few synthetic ingredients in the food. I'd rather feed them the small quantities of fruits and vegetables than factory-produced vitamins. I know some people feel differently but I just see this as one of the many trade-offs of feeding cats!

I'm surprised that someone in your store said Primal is better than Rad Cat, though, since they're such different foods! Rad Cat is definitely messier but our cats love it, I buy it at a good price that's about the same as Primal per serving, and it's got great simple ingredients, too. I'd feed more Rad Cat but our cats get bored with their foods too easily. (They get two Primal meals a day, a small serving of Rad Cat, and some canned foods, too.)

I'm surprised as well someone from the store would say Primal is better than RC. From the point of view of which is more bio-appropriate, definitely RC.

I agree with LisaHE regarding Primal's lack of synthetic vitamins and minerals and choosing to use instead those veggies / fruits.  My preference is not to give the cats those veggies and fruits, or a minimal amount if I didn't have a choice, however, in my household the reality is that only one cat will eat RC while both cats will eat Primal.

I don't think it'll be a problem for your cat(s), certainly you can switch over or do a combo of both. Both my cats stools were far lower on an all Primal diet versus what they were eating previously which was about 50% Primal and 50% NV canned.

Both RC and Primal are good foods, just different but for sure RC resembles more of a cat's natural diet than Primal. :)

And yeah - it's a major mess doing a partial thaw of RC and portioning out. I learned the hard way to portion to individual containers the daily servings rather than portioning it and placing the food back in one or two larger containers - all the portions stuck together, urgh!! :(
