So the story goes as this.

My girlfriend and I have been together for years and lived together for almost the entire length of the relationship. She recently informed me that she will be moving out back to her home state.

The problem is though is that we have had our beautiful Russian blue for over a year. It was originally her idea to adopt but the cat has fallen in love with me. It's clear she is a single person cat.

So my question is that if I let my girlfriend take her with her, for an indefinite time period. Would this greatly devastate my cat. I don't want to give her up not see her emotionally scared yet I don't want to go against my girlfriend, or ex to be.

Whose name is on the papers? If it's your girlfriends you don't have much of a say if she really wants to take the cat. If your name or both of your names are on them then you might legally be able to contest her taking the cat.

However, before taking it that far, you should sit your girlfriend down and talk to her. Explain to her why think it's best that the cat stays with you. You need to make a joint decision based on what is best for the cat, that's the most important thing.

Moving can be stressful for some cats as well - which is something you can talk to your girlfriend about.

I would do what's best for the cat. You might want to bring in a third non-biased party to help you settle this problem. I can see it escalating into something very dramatic and serious and cause both of you to leave each other negatively and traumatically.
