Hi,
I have a 3yr old male cat that I rescued when he was 3months old. When he was a kitten he would knead me and suck on any blanket that I had next to or on me.
This past year he stared sucking on what I was wearing....he doesn't care if it is a blanket!
Now he has added humping behavior on my leg while kneading and sucking

I stop him and he is usually content to curl up on my lap and sleep. Sometimes he is determined to get his "fix"

What is going on?!

Hi Kathaka, welcome to TCS!

First off, is your cat neutered?

If not, he's likely just acting out his normal, breeding behaviours. If he is neutered, it might be worth taking him to the vet, just to make sure the neutering worked (the can botch them, although it's rare) and to make sure that he doesn't have any complications, like an undescended testicle.

Once you've ruled that out, it is possible he's doing it as a comfort behaviour or to seek attention. If that's the case, you may be able to distract him when you see the behaviour starting and hopefully break him of the habit, if that's the case.

I hope that helps. I'm sure some of our other members have exprienced this and will be along soon with more ideas.

Thank you for replying so quickly! Yes, is neutered and I adopted him that way...

I work out of my home so he gets plenty of attention from me, although he does share me with our dog... :-)

Usually if a cat is neutered at an older age, they still act out their breeding behaviours.

I've done a bit of reading up form the internet and what I've found is: sometimes, humping and even ejaculating are just ways your cat is expressing their comfort. Try not to think of the humping as sexual but rather as your cat being super happy. But of course, pushing off your cat when he is humping you is a good idea so he doesn't get the idea that it's okay to do that to you! Give him something else to hump or just stop it with a light tap or push. I'm not sure if hissing works but you can try that.

And yes, if you're worried that he wasn't neutered properly, I'd take him to the vet to rule that out!

(My cat doesn't hump but I've seen his nether region poke out when he's kneading and sometimes I feel a bit of wetness when he's done...)
