Happy last day of August everyone!  It seems everyone around here is chomping at the bit to put out fall decorations.  Me; well I love fall, I just don't love winter.  And I don't want to be rushing the seasons that inevitably lead to winter.  (You lucky southern hemisphererers heading into spring!)  But I do have some cute fall decorations.  If I get around to finding them all!  I have some fall things, some for Thanksgiving, Christmas (of course) and then some more minor holidays like Valentines Day and St. Patrick's day.  I have Easter and spring things too.  Only summer is left out I guess.

So how about you?

Do you decorate for seasons?

(Oh; in case anyone is wondering.  It's still summer weather here.  Some nights are cooler. And by cooler I mean in the 60s instead of 70s at night.  I'm not expecting fall for a bit yet!)

No, we don't decorate for anything except at Christmas. Life is complicated enough without changing decorations frequently :lol3:

We don't do any decorating. I used to love putting up a Christmas tree...then I got a cat. :D I still have boxes of beautiful ornaments I collected, mostly feathered birds, pine cones, seashells, all sorts of natural stuff and blown glass, but it all sits in storage at my Mom's. Sigh. My tree was always so beautiful.

No, we don't decorate at all. Three sides of the house is the kitty highway, with cat shelving and scratching posts. The other side is Mr Husband's climbing wall, with bits of wood and crampons sticking out at odd angles so he can practice climbing.

That's all the decoration we need.

Not so much here for anything other than Christmas. But Christmas? Oh yeah. The kitchen and living room are completely redecorated for Christmas. I used to do the bathroom, too, until our son came home and took our bathroom decorations. Now I pretty much let it go. We have three full-size Christmas trees (living room, kitchen, and our bedroom) and most of the time, they all go up and they all get decorated. The last couple years we let the bedroom tree go as we simply ran out of time for decorating. I enjoy the tree in the bedroom and we'll often fall asleep while the lights are still turned on. The cats love the bedroom tree and there's a place in the back of the tree next to the wall that turns into Amber's favorite napping space when the tree is up.

Outside, Rick puts Christmas lights out. And believe me, when your hubby decorates outside? That's a sign of true love. Rick hates dealing with the outside lights and decorations. I love them, so he does it. Amidst a lot of cussing and muttering. But he does it.

I do have my witch bottle display that I sometimes put on the hutch in the kitchen for Halloween. And I take some bottles into work for a display in my office, complete with black netting and purple lights and a garland of fall leaves. A black bat (Edgar), a black crow (Allan) and a black rat (Poe). Those three turned into such a hit in my office that I now keep them out year around (much to my son's dismay). Every fall I keep saying that I'd like to decorate the stoop out front. I never seem to do it.

I change the tablecloth in the kitchen to match the holidays....sometimes, I'm lucky to even get that done.

Not really. I used to decorate for Xmas when I was with my ex.  It was a BIG deal to him, and even though I'm Jewish, I enjoyed it a lot.  We also did Holloween big time.  That was a lot of fun too.

Now? Who can be bothered.  First, my BF isn't Christian so there goes that.  We did put up some lights one or two years but gave up.  As for all else, we're too busy to get it done with me out of the house at work full time and him in school full time.  It's a shame because our house really would lend itself to a spooky theme.

No I don't.  Halloween used to be DH's and my favorite day of the year and we would put up all kinds of cool stuff. He passed away almost 4 years ago and since then, I haven't put up anything because it's just no fun without him. Add that to the fact that DD is away at school at Halloween and my dog is a lunatic who screams her head off and darts out the door every time someone knock on the door and there you have it. I have a cute chicken costume for the dog that I used to dress her in and walk her around the neighborhood so she could see all the kids and DH would hand out candy since the lunatic would be out of the house but now it's just me, the dog and the cats. Lilith and Sophie aren't handing out any candy and Henry would probably be in hiding with people knocking on the door. Sophie would push all the candy out of the bowl onto the floor and then sit in it . It's usually still really hot here at Halloween so depending on how bad it is, I might costume up the dog and take her to see the kids. I keep biscuits in my pocket for them to give her because sometimes they try to give her candy and she can't have it much to her disappointment. I tried to take her last year but she wasn't having it. She kept trying to drag me back home so we gave up. Old age and heat don't mix.

No Christmas tree either anymore. It's just DD and me and she's almost 21. It's not important to her and I really don't care. I'd have to do all the putting up and taking down too. No thanks. I've gotten a tabletop tree a few times that you're supposed to plant after the holiday but SOMEBODY always manages to kill them before they can be planted. Someone must have broken in and did it, cuz I swear it WASN'T me.
Yeah. It was a serial tree killing burglar who doesn't steal anything. That makes the most sense.

Halloween and Christmas only but it depends on the year. Some years it's just too busy to decorate. We always manage to get a Christmas tree up but that's mainly since we have a kid.

I didn't realize how many Christmas decorations we have until we moved them all. We can decorate in all silver, all gold, all blue, all red, all white, or any combination of those. This Christmas we are doing a nature-theme. I have wreath that will work, and a few ornaments so far, but that's it. (happybird, would you like to sell some Christmas stuff to me?
). I do have many yards of forest-green velveteen to sew a tree skirt, stockings, and throw pillows. I can't wait to set up my sewing table, I've been excited about Christmas since June!

Sure do! Christmas, Thanksgiving/Halloween, Birthdays more prominently, then Patty's Day, Canada Day and Easter.

And a bit for Valentine's Day.  I love that holiday
(Probably the only single person who does!)

I don't decorate anymore now that the kids are grown and on their own.  Especially when the kids were little I would go all out for Christmas but it was really for the kids not me.

I usually love decorating for Christmas, but I got two cats this year. Goodbye, delicate spun glass ornaments. :(

Until I can afford a bigger house and have a separate room for the tree I have to buy some sturdier ornaments this year.

I have a neighbour who never - and I mean NEVER - takes down his Xmas decorations.. His Xmas tree is always there.. In the living room.. Decorated.. His Xmas lights on the balcony are always there and he turns them on when the sun sets.. I can see them through my window every night. Flickering..

He has some chronic disease (he is not mentally challenged, though) but I don't know more details. My mother (she's a nurse) gives him shots every now and then for his disease..

The 1st time she was called to treat him, she didn't know who he was.. So, when she got inside his appartment, she immediately knew it was the guy that never takes the Xmas lights down

My mother saw the Xmas tree from up close (we can usually see it through our windows, so it was an "inside sneak-peak" for her, at that point!), so his daughter tried to begin to explain why it's there..

It was last year, in the mid August .. So, my mother was like "It's fine! I like it! It's just that I am not sure whether it is too soon or too late to have a Xmas tree decorated in August!"

Thankfully, they laughed it off, they weren't offended or anything. And since that day my mother has been treating the guy, whenever he needs a shot.

Are you in the US?  I have bought a bunch of unbreakable ornaments at Walmart.  For a long time we couldn't have the tree out because of the cats and by the time they got old enough to leave it alone; the kids were big enough to mess with it.  I've got enough unbreakable ones now that its not noticeable that we leave off all the pretty glass ones.

My friend's dad never used to take his tree down.  And he had a live tree.  He just dragged it from the dining room into the unused living room.  It was completely brown...yet decorated.  At least he didn't light it?  That doesn't sound safe on a formerly live tree!

Yeah, I do. I actually work at a walmart right now so I'll know as soon as the ornaments come out, and the majority available now are no longer glass. I'm just a little bummed because I have this very large collection of spun glass ornaments- the kind that are really delicate and twinkle in the light. They're absolutely gorgeous. They're also perfect targets for playful cats, and really easily broken, which means they're also a safety hazard. But I love my cats, so it's worth it. They'll just stay packed away until I ca afford a bigger house, where the tree can stay in a separate room.

Well, @MoochNNoodles  I'll agree with  you about the lights and the formerly live tree. BUT the guy I am talking about has the lights decorating his balcony. Not the tree.. I don't know if the tree has lights on it, actually..

But here in Greece most of us don't use live trees. We use fake ones, that tend to look like the live ones (sort of..).. Or we decorate miniature ships, which are the actual Greek custom, as opposed to the tree. So, if the guy had the lights on the tree, it wouldn't be dangerous at all.. Would it be weird? Definitely..

I have several 'wreaths' one for each season (one outside) that I exchange, and several big bouquets of silk flowers for each season that I exchange out too. i have totes that are marked for each season with my decorations that I set around the house, centerpieces, etc. and little 'extras' that set on my tables and shelves. It works well that I have the totes, it makes it easy to decorate!

...with the cats...
while i enjoy seeing all the pretty seasonal decorations people put up, i don't do any seasonal decorating myself. for me, it just seems to be not worth the bother of putting everything up only to have to take it all down in not very long, and then repeat with each season or holiday.

I do decorate for most seasons although for some it's minimal. I host Thanksgiving here though, so I go all out for Fall. :lol3:
