Hi there,

I have my 3 cats on a wide rotation of wet food plus Primal raw turkey nugget topped on the food at every meal.

I've noticed this week that one of my boys vomited after each "Fancy Feast" meal.  They wont eat the Classic pates, so I get either the grilled, chunky, or marinated morsels variety.   I didn't have any Marinated Morsel flavors this week, but I had grilled and maybe chunky.  A couple days ago, I fed a dinner of I think chicken (grilled or chunky, not sure) and one boy threw up minutes afterwards.  I didn't think anything of it - everyone else was fine, and he was fine after he puked.

Then tonight, I fed a turkey grilled FF, and the same boy puked again right after the meal!  The others were fine, and he seems just fine now after puking.  The date on the bottom of the can was April 2017.  Is anyone else seeing this with FF?  I thought it was a fluke the first time, but to have it happen again is too much.  He is a perfectly healthy 1.5 year old cat.  I'm going to pull the FF for a while - they dont eat it every day, but its too coincidental that he puked 2x in a row from this brand.

ETA:  They've all been eating FF fine for the past several months.  Hell, I fed them FF Kitten a lot when they were really young.  What gives?

Yeah, there might be an ingredient in the food that does not agree with your cat. Best to not feed it. You should try to isolate the ingredient so you can avoid it in other foods. I just wrote to another poster about this. Some cats cannot tolerate the gums and thickeners in many canned foods. It could even be a protein sensitivity. In your case, could be poultry (chicken and turkey) or could be one of the thickeners used to make the gravy. That would be my guess.

Yeah it must be something specifically in the FF -  I just dont get why it started making him sick just this week?  It's been in the rotation forever...

They all eat chicken, turkey, rabbit, duck flavors fine in other foods.  I rarely EVER get fish flavors, and if I do, it's not from a grocery-store brand - I might get TikiCat occasionally......  I just strongly feel like something just  changed in their formula, or I got a bum batch.   Not affecting the other 2 cats at all, just the one.   Who is my favorite.....  argh.   Not that I want anyone to be sick, but this is my very special boy.

He might be sensitive to wheat gluten in all but FF pates Classics! It makes gravy!

It might also be the fish in the chunky FF. I'd try again with the classics and see if he likes them. I also remember looking at some Whiskas cans that had similar ingredients to FF but I think they were only pate unfortunately. :(

How are his eating habits? Does he eat fast or slow? That might also play a role in his vomiting.

This is a definite possibility -- wheat is a common irritant for cats. And these food sensitivity issues can come on fairly stealthily: we saw that with our previous cat.

He's just a regular eater - he doesn't inhale his food and wolf it down - he just eats at a nice regular pace.  I know it's not because he eats too fast (I do have another cat who occasionally did that with kibble, so I know it when I see it
)   He's NEVER vomited in his life until this past week, and both times on the FF.   They ate the FF Classics a lot when they were younger, but they've all been eating the grilled/chunky varieties since the beginning of the year.  Never had a problem til this week.   I haven't given any FF this week and my guy hasn't vomited since, so I know  it was something about those particular cans.

I'm not thrilled about giving them food with wheat gluten, but they eat other brands with wheat gluten and he doesn't have this reaction.   They just aren't crazy about the pate varieties - I have to go back 3 or 4 times to add more toppers to the pate to get them to finish it, and I just don't have time to do that in the mornings.  I can at night or on the weekends.   But if it's a chunky-meat style food, they'll eat it all on their own with the Primal topper (and I don't have to keep re-topping it!)

I guess they're just forcing me to step up their food game - no more grocery-store brands!  Even though I originally liked the FF Class pate ingredients - it's really not bad for a "grocery store" food.   I just won't get them the grilled/chunky flavors anymore.   Maybe I'll start mixing in the FF Classic with some other "chunky" foods they eat to help facilitate a move back to pates.........they did use to like it, I think I just messed up last year and didn't give them enough variety, and they got tired of it.   Same thing happened with the Soulistic - they used to eat it, but I think they burned out on it.   They have a good rotation now.
