We adopted a little kitten about a week ago. She is nine weeks old now and had been at the shelter with her mama and littermates since she was 3 days old. She eats both wet and dry food fine. However, she is constantly trying to nurse from my pinky finger. So my question is should she be offered a bottle of kmr periodically? It seems to smooth her just to suck like that. The is the 5th kitten that we have adopted at this age but she is the only one who seems to be missing her nursing...advice??

She is old enough to be weaned but her weaning was sudden rather than slow, so she still has that strong drive to suck on something.  I had one kitten who sucked on a piece of an older cat's fur his entire life, which was like 16 years!  You might be able to make her a pacifier using a kitten bottle but she may not like it.  Skin feels more like what she wants, and a lot of them really latch on to ear lobes.  You could go on letting her suck your pinky for awhile, or you could try the bottle with or without KMR and then allow her to withdraw more graduaally by reducing the number of times she gets it, which is what the mama cats usually do.  I feel so sad for them when they are wrenched away from their mom and family quickly like that, but they do need to go to forever homes whenever good ones are found.

She's done the same thing with my chin (usually at about 3 am). Such a sweet baby. I want her to feel secure. Since she is eating very well I think I will just try to pacify her with my pinky for now. She seems content. Here is the little sweetheart

Here she is wrestling with her brother from another mother. He's about double her weight but I think she's letting him know she's boss!
