Is there a way you can get help with the colony? Maybe someone who can feed once in awhile?

Unless your spouse in on board, though, he may object to any activity that doesn't include him. Maybe he an help, rather than fuss about it?

Good luck - it's a tough choice to be forced to Mke.

I would really try to find some help to give you a break a few days each week.  Have you ever taken him along so that he can see what you do and see how/why these cats depend on you?  My DH helps me out from time to time, but he is very supportive.  He can get a bit frustrated, but I have taken the time to educate him really well on feral cats and they extra care they may require.  Once my DH witnessed the love/joy of the cats I care for, he understood how I could not help them.

Doing it all alone is hard and it's a daily commitment.  I find it very hard to travel (even for a day) as good help is really hard to find.  Yet I realize that I must travel on occasion and the cats will do ok.  I always find someone to feed them.  I just know how hard it all can be.

It is all difficult work and you are not alone in your venture.  I find caring for my feral cats to be rewarding and challenging, frustrating and darn hard work.  Yet, I love them to pieces and know they would have a difficult time surviving without my help.  Do what you can for them, but also try your best to find balance.

I had a feral tom that took me over a year to trap.  I finally decided to just give it a rest.  I was so stressed out and so was the cat.  I just decided to wait a bit and calm down and then try a new approach.  It did work as I eventually caught him.

You are definitely not alone in this work.  All of us here completely understand.
