she's been lactating since Thursday, for 2 days.

today her "area" looks swollen and gushy.

when are these kittens coming???!

will be her 1st and going to be only litter.

she got out while in heat was gone for 3 days , thought we lost her but she came back home thank God.  we love her so much.

i babysat my granddaughter tonight while the kids, (2 older children are out and have children of their own, still have 2 teenagers at home) went to the fair.

"Avia" came out to see what the fuss was all about after the little angel fell asleep.  I told her "you'll be a mama soon!"

i keep watching her belly to see if i can detect any visible contractions, but nothing. and i haven't noticed her digging anywhere or making a nest.  She did hop behind a tall book case in my daughters bedroom as if to scope the area out.  she also swatted at our dog "Duke", they usually touch noses and can sleep close by eachother but she's been making him keep his distance lately.

we have 2 nice size card board boxes w/ folded blankets that she can use for a nesting box, she's gone inside one of them, but not the other.

thinking about staying home from church tomorrow just in case its kitten time.

I know how you feel my girl is the same but she bites me. I can see she is swollen and it's pink down there my vet said she should have them in the next few days and that was last week so I am ringing her back tomorrow. They told me to just keep an eye on her to see what she is doing. I do t know if mine is in labor or not so good luck hope I helped

thanks!

the grey one was born last, seems like the runt of the litter.

it's really been a sweet experience.  we're shocked at how smooth and quickly she delivered them after watching birthing videos on youtube for the past month.

Yes, most likely after pains. Her breathing should calm down over the next 24 hours. Some moms breathe heavily the first couple of days while they get used to nursing. It's hard work. She should be okay, just offer her lots of wet food and water nearby.

Keep us posted!

Your kittens are soooooo cute!! My cat had her kittens the day before yesterday. I noticed her breathing doing that too right up until last night.

I think your grey one is really cute! Reminds me of one of mine when he was a baby. He looked like that, came to me as an orphan at 2 days old. Big boy now and a handsome dude!

Your daughter is right! lol

Are you keeping them?

Funny looking kittens often grow up to be beautiful and stunning. They all look like mice when newborn. I'm glad your daughter is partial to the grey kitten!

me too! im so happy she got to experience this.  told her that i had a grey kitty while growing up named "Friskey"

i grew up w/ a mama cat named "Mother" who had 3 litters. made my childhood fantastic. we lived in a small town, a farm town in a farm house so i always got to keep all the kitties , but  sometimes neighbors would take one too.

im so glad i didnt have to wait any longer after she lost her mucous plug.

still astonished at how fast it all went.

she lost her plug around 4pm, by 9 pm all 5 kittens were been born.

she growled a bit with each delivery, the 2nd one was the biggest and she really grunted and strained with it. the rest seemed like no problem.

The 5 new kittens born yesterday all seem fine. my daughter txt'd from school today

"are all the kitties nippling?"

They're all nippling! lol

but just a few mins ago i saw a flea on one of their bellies omg :(

we treated the mother about a month ago with Sentury  and i had been checking her and combing through her fur

apparently not good enough.

i feel just terrible.

what do i do?

Growing up, i remember our outdoor farm cats had flea collars, but now i'm reading that those aren't very good.

Revolution can be used on the mother but not the kittens yet as they are too young. It is safe for nursing mothers though. You will want to stay away from capstar and other oral treatments that can pass through the breast milk. Manually remove as many fleas as possible from the babies and they can be given a warm bath using dawn dish soap which will kill any live fleas on them. Don't keep them in the bath too long and make sure you dry them thoroughly and place them on a towel over a heating pad. I've heard is folks bathing kittens this young in sever infestation situations however I would try to hold off till they are over two weeks before bathing them. Three weeks old would be even better since kittens cannot adequately regulate their body temps. The most important thing is to absolutely not use any chemical flea treatment on the kittens at all until they are at least 6 weeks old and there are only select treatments that can be used at that time. This means no oral, topical, collars, or flea shampoo products. Most flea shampoos can't be used till 12 or 16 weeks. We had a kitten infested with fleas and her vet approved dawn baths every couple of days at 3 weeks old. Just keep them warm during and after bath time. Dawn is safe, the risk is getting chilled. Revolution is about the only thing I personally would consider using on a lactating mom.

thank you!

just watched a video on youtube about kittens w/ fleas an the vet lady also said manual removal is the best bet . and same thing about the dawn dish soap and keeping them warm if bathed.

jeepers i just know this process is going to stress our Avia mama.

she's doing such a good job at mothering so far.  she's right there nursing and cleaning them, licking them. really proud of her.
