Just curious if anyone has any ideas why my cat does this. I got him as a stray when he was very young, the vet said maybe he was 5-6 months old. He was all alone, jumped into my arms so I snatched him up. He will eat half his food, come to wherever I am and sit, sometimes stare at me and wait for me to go by his food and then he runs to it and finishes. He's not taking breaks from eating... I will leave his food down for longer just to see if this was the case. I have 2 other stray cats, one eats in a different room and the other he is fine with, protects even and she is way older than him. I have even fed him separately and he still does it. He also does not try to cover his food which would tell me he's trying to hide it and go back later so I'm stumped. He has always done this. I thought maybe since he was a stray he had to guard his food but I do everything I can to make him know that his food is not going to be removed until he's done, nobody else is gonna get it and it's there for him every day. I just really want to know why he does this and if there's anything I can do to assure him if needed. I'm fine with it but just hope he's not having any kind of anxiety that I can help with.

My rescue girl does something very similar. She'll eat some of her food if I'm not there, but really wants me to go and sit with her while she eats. If she hasn't seen much of me that day, she'll even come and have a quick knead/suckle on my lap before going and eating her food. She's a very confident little thing - its just one of her quirks. I'd think it's the same thing with your boy. So long as he doesn't show any other signs of anxiety, just enjoy his adoration for you! :heart3:
