Has anyone heard of this as opposed to pills?  My vet prescribed Prozac 1/4 of a 10 mg pill for Lizzy, who is having trouble with territorial / litter box issues with our new kitten.  I have the new kitten in with my foster kittens now.  Lizzy is next to impossible to pill.  It takes both my husband and myself to hold her down and use the pill gun.  It seems like torture to her.  I know I'm supposed to use it up to 3 weeks to see a difference.  We have been using Composure for a couple of weeks.

Question:  Has anyone tried transdermal Prozac for cats?  I used to give my elderly Siamese cat steroids on his ear in compounded form for his asthma / breathing issues.  Thanks for any advice!

I had heard of transdermal Prozac for cats before so googled it and yes, it does exist. I just glanced through the info but it does seem to be highly recommended as a way to medicate your cat. Certainly I'd go that route if one of my babies needed Prozac!

It's my LAST resort.  Otherwise, my sweet Luka will be adopted by a good home.  Lizzy just won't accept him in her boxes so he's now in with my foster babies.  I'm going to try three weeks of it.  Wish us luck!!!!!!

Just put the first ml on her ear pinna.  Along with Composure.  I sure hope this works, because I hate the thought of finding another home for Luka.

Absolutely good luck with the transdermal.  My vet suggested it with zoloft because my cat got a terrible upset stomach on prozac.  The vet wanted to start with pills though and see if it worked for a month before going to transdermal.  As someone said above, it can work or it can be completely useless - so she wanted to see if it worked when definitively getting the med and then we could try other approaches.  It's about 45 days now on zoloft and all good, so I'm going to stick to the pills because they're working but at least I have a baseline to know if I ever want to shift to transdermal that the medication itself works but the delivery may not.

Have you tried any of the felway diffuser products? They put out phermones that a mother cat gives off and has a calming effect on cats. A lot of people swear by them.

Feliway is a great product, but for really difficult situations it sometimes isn't enough by itself. Meds such as Prozac are generally a last resort, for use when behavioural training and drug free options have been exhausted. They definitely have their place too, and some cats can really befit from them.
