Spot appeared on my 4 year old indoor female cat a couple days ago. She has been to the vet and I am waiting for a culture test, but in the mean time I thought I'd ask everyone's opinion. Chances of this being ringworm and not an allergy? I know that ringworm can be horrible to get rid of, especially since I have carpet and another cat. She's currently on ointment and being treated as an allergy until the culture test comes back.

Has she been exposed to anyone with ringworm or another cat with ringworm?  Have you been around anyone with ringworm or another animal with ringworm?  Ringworm is an airborne fungus.  If you have a black light, you can hold it over the sore and if it glows in the dark you'll know if it's ringworm or not.  (I keep one on hand to look for urine spots on the carpet in my house.)  Ringworm generally has a raised ridge and looks kind of pussy and crusty.  It looks more like a sore or bite or something like that to me.

My moms cat had ringworm about 10 months ago, but they live 90 minutes away and my cat hasn't been around those cats. My fear is it was somehow tracked to my place and is just now showing. There's no other spots on her body I can tell. My other cat is long haired and I haven't noticed anything on him, but that could be more difficult. I don't have a black light, but I know they can also glow for just dry skin.

I really hope it isn't ringworm, I just got off surgery and can't even walk or drive and can't fathom trying to rid my apartment of it.

I'm really hoping you're right! Thanks for your input :) much appreciated.

I'll follow up whenever the vet gets back to me.
