Not sure if I should be concerned or not.. I just find it.. strange.

On occasion, once a week or every other week, I find Monet attacking his own tail. I am not sure if he's playing or his tail is annoying him. He'd flip, twist and roll over to get his tail, then he'd grab it, bite, then lick his tail.. and repeat. after about 5 minutes of this, he's all calm and satisfied. And I only see him do this on my bed.

I looked at his tail and it looks fine. no scabs, bald patches or anything. Indoor only, so no fleas or other bugs (but it'd be all over his body, not just his tail?)

I guess I am paranoid because I know there's some cats that has the "twitches" and they attack themselves to stop the twitches.. which is normally on their backs.

Any ideas if he's just playing or something else? My other cat never does this.

Some cats just like to play with their tails. I think it's pretty cute watching Sinbad chase his tail. He'll run in little circles and twist and flip around like you described.

If you are that concerned about it you can bring him in to the vet, but it sounds like your kitty just likes to play with his tail. Nothing really to worry about barring other symptoms, which from what you've said there doesn't seem to be.

I can assure you, Monet is not the only cat that chases his own tail. My Sgt. Pepper often thinks his tail is a monster too. Usually I'll find him in the bathtub chasing his tail, spinning in circles. It's a lot like these pictures, but without the ring toy. He's a very sweet boy, but he really isn't very smart. Not as smart as my girl cat anyway.

My Pickles chases her tail all the time.  She will run in tight circles and somersault once she does catch it.  And she will also end by licking it.  I haven't seen her brother Pepper chase his tail but he's the more cool, calm and collected one of the two.  She's our zany one.  lol  But she's otherwise sweet and gentle.
