So everything is ready to send. Lets hope the vet decides to just take care of this issue. I ended up putting together a rather direct demand letter leaving out emotion. I don't want to blur the lines at this point.

Kitten has been a royal stinker all night. If you say I'm gonna get you she nearly wiggles out of her skin She also assisted in the set up of a new printer. Gads it's awful when it makes more sense to buy a new printer than the ink alone. Colder nights now , I'll sleep with the windows open as long as possible. Cats both have heated beds but are staking out claims on the bed since I've added the electric blanket. I know but truthfully I like them to sleep with us.

I thought it was my imagination. It's like she's having a second kittenhood as she explores all of her favorite toys and hidey spots. Or maybe it was the need to invent or reinvent many of the games we play together.

She had her claws clipped yesterday. She sounded like the Velcro monster walking across the carpet. She can still turn the air blue.

Amazing!  And thanks for the birthday wishes and the funny thought!

So sorry to hear about what happened to kitten. But dont blame yourself. These vets go to school for a long time for a reason and its reasonable that we would trust them. Afterall, we probably trust our own doctors most of the time too. With that being said big mistakes do happen. Hopefully the vet takes pride in her work and takes responsibility by forgiving your vet bills. Luckily, animals dont get sad when they get blind, deaf or lose a limb. They just learn how to cope and that is all. They can learn how to cope very well. And kitten will be set for her lifetime in your hands.

The ball is in her court now. We'll see how she plays it.

Kitten is well adapted at this point to her new limitations. Unless you are aware I doubt anyone would notice. Our other cat has adapted to Kittens new way of interacting with her.

Forgotten often is that other pets have to adapt to the change. We've had to modify and change some things in the house.  I have had to deal with not only my stress and anger but a husband who is infuriated beyond words over this. I hope she just cuts a check and we can all move forward.

Like most of us our pets are priceless to us. The reality is the law in most but not all cases sees them as little more than sofa cushions. The only way I can feel like some justice for what happened is the payment of the vet bills.

Ugh. I hate paperwork. I forgot to fill in part of a form so the State Veterinary Board kicked the whole mess back to me. Back to the PO tomorrow to send in the corrected form.

Nothing back from the vet. I have the sick feeling it's going to end up in small claims. The SVB must have found the paperwork complete this time though.

Kitten has been batting around some cheap dollar store jingle bells from the ornament selection. shiny and they make a good sound.

Too bad if it goes to court. But I expect you will prevail. But she may also settle before court.
I've had to settle more than one sale contract with horses that went bad.

The credit card is paid off so there's on interest tacked on. I skinned it down to the bare bones and hopefully she's smart enough to bite. Because win or lose this is stressful and time consuming for everyone.

I did file a complaint with the SVB. I wrote what happened that day in her office. She is in no way portrayed as drunk, meth fueled maniac waving a butcher knife or shoving random medication into pill bottles. Something went wrong and it needs to be sorted by her peers. This is a learning process on a professional level.

Every time you turn on the TV you're reminded that your pet is family. And yet when this happens you realize the law sees them as little more than damaged sofa cushions. These our are kids. And their time with us is precious and short even in the best of circumstances. I spent years , decades of my life fighting for reasonable rights for horses. Now I have to advocate for my little cat.

I don't FB but I check yours , in a non stalker way to see Jenny. I love the picture of her in your hand holding her tail.

And the vet denies any wrong doing and her lawyer has requested I send any further correspondence to them. I'm not really surprised.  My cat had an adverse reaction to an overdose of baytril. more than twice the safe dose for a cat her weight.

Well if you're going to small claims court and she's using a lawyer than she stands to spend more in legal fees then she would loose in the case.....unless she really believes she did no wrong i would want the case to go away with as little publicity as possible.

I wish I could say we were surprised. I didn't make the accusation lightly. I looked for error on my side and after speaking to two different vets and reading the dosing guidelines by the manufacturer you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see my cat had an adverse reaction due to being given twice the highest recommended dose.

We will respond to the lawyer and then wait and see how the investigation progresses with the SVB.  Truthfully the amount we asked is hardly worth legal puffing to make it go away which is what I suspect this is.

Of course the lawyer only has what she has given them.

Glad to see Jenny got past her 3000 mark.

Yes Jenny made it!!

When i was medicating a cat with Baytril on an emergency rescue case, we had an instruction to check the cat's eye sight twice a day, and that was on a normal dose.

Still waiting for word from either the State Veterinary Board or the veterinarians lawyer. I can see where it's easy to feel left out of the loop and feel discouraged.

We have discussed this and if the vet again refuses to accept responsibility for this we feel there is no choice but to amend our original complaint to the SVB and call what we have assumed was a mistake as willful or gross negligence in her use of controlled medications. That sort of sounds like a threat but not meant that way. If she truly thinks ignoring know serious consequences and prescribes drugs in excessive doses there's a bigger problem than a math error.

Living in such a small rural area with limited resources available we've had more than one substandard vet set up shop thinking they could get by or the hicks are stupid and won't know any better.

It's easy to forget that not everyone has a budget to run their pet to the vet when they get sick. Or that it's a financial sacrifice that comes out of their own food or medication budget. Not everyone here has access to the internet. Or can afford it. Wouldn't have a clue why their cat went blind or their pet died.

I still find it personally infuriating that had she used this drug correctly we would have likely rolled over this URI without incident. My cat was not born blind. Did not have vision issues or go blind through disease or old age or even an adverse reaction to a drug prescribed correctly.

As a new poster on this site I want to say I am sorry for what happened to kitten. I know it rips you to shreds when an animal you love is hurt or in pain, and that pain is magnified when it was due to someone's ignorance. I think Kitty is very lucky to be a member of your family. It is obvious you have done everything in your power to make her better. I think that once you get this settled you should post your story as a warning to sites like http://www.vetratingz.com/    http://www.bebemau.com/rateyourvet.aspx  or even Yelp. That kind of negligence is unacceptable and the lack of accountability is sickening;  people need to be made aware. Sending well wishes to you and kitty
