I have a cat who's just given birth to her second litter yesterday. She had three healthy kittens, she's producing milk, eating, drinking- however she's still panting pretty hard and her belly seems as though she may still have babies inside.

I'm going to be completely honest here and tell you that I honestly cannot afford to take her to the vet. I'm heartbroken because I don't understand what's going on.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I don't think you need to worry.  She could have more kittens or be having after pains.  Keep an eye on her.

She is my son's cat and he will be completely devistated if something happens to her.

Be sure to give her plenty of water and wet food.  She will need the energy to nurse the kittens.

She's not really drinking as much as she is eating. There's times where she seems really out of it, just like she's lost in space somewhere, but also like she has absolutely no energy.

She is likely not done giving birth, her acting exhausted is basically because she is, she needs canned food and water now, rather than dry so she continues to stay well hydrated.

It does happen where there is a break in between, but keep an eye on her for bleeding, complete disinterest in her born babies, etc.

Anything that appears wrong at all other than the panting.

It's not constant for hours on end correct?

The panting really hasn't stopped. She has been eating a little wet food. I tried to give her milk replacement for the vitamins she drank a little then started growling at it.

Have you seen her pushing without a baby coming out?

This would highly indicate the need for a c-section, but otherwise I'd assume she is still not delivered all babies.

You said she had the first 3 yesterday? But she has been panting ever since then? Straight through, not on and off even?

She may have a baby in an unusual position, that she is unable to deliver, although you would see her try to push.

Pushing looks just like having a bowel movement and you will see her whiskers come forward.

I'm pretty confident that she will be fine, just not done delivering, as I said, not uncommon for there to be a delay in between. She may have conceived at different times too, a day or two apart.

As long as she will eat and drink, just let nature take it's course.

You will know if something is truly wrong. Likely she will be fine and deliver another couple.

Let me know!

No pushing at all. She's not so much panting, but she's got accelerated breathing.

Then I do believe she is okay, but not finished.

She will probably slip another couple in while you're asleep :)
