My cat was on a steady maintenance dose of 5 mg every other day for this asthma. For over a month I stopped giving him that and only gave him 2.5 mg every other day.  So I asked my vet about stopping it and if I had to taper. She said, no, that was low enough just to stop. I didn't particularly felt like that was.. but I trusted her.

Now I feel like my cat is acting a bit funny. He seems to look at me all the time like he is upset and scared. If I had go guess I would say that he has like tics or shakes and sometimes I think he is breathing heavy but then other times he seems fine.

In addition last week he had a weird diahrera episode.

But, the thing is, he has been off the meds for 2 weeks now. I would have thought withdrawal would have shown up sooner.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't think this is a reaction to stopping the steroid.  Your kitty was at a tiny dose so I don't think there would be an issue with stopping it.  I would be more inclined to think that if it does have to do with medication that your kitty needs the steroid.  Have you brought up what you are seeing with your vet?

Yes. We are concerned about going back on because he tested high on his blood sugar. We resolved to try antihistamines. I just tried to give him the dose and he threw up. He had the same reaction to the food that he did the last time I gave him food with him in it... as if he had something stuck in his throat. He then threw up a hair ball and had like tons of goo coming out of his mouth.

However, then I caved and gave him his "dry" food to ensure that he could eat and he scarfed that right down.

I would think the taste of the antihistamine is turning him off but the pill is so insanely small I can't see how he could even taste it.

My vet was of the opinion that the high blood sugar was due to stress from the cat visit... but I figured, why risk it. But I might have to go back on. It was working.

ETA to say that I looked it up and the bitter taste of the antihistamine can cause cats to have bad reactions. Including foaming at the mouth. My cat had an insane reactions to both time I gave him food with the tiny bitter taste in it.  He recoiled back like he had been stabbed in the mouth and then there was Foam coming out of his mouth. The second time I tried, same thing, except then he threw up as well, but also had foam in his mouth.  Eventually I gave him wet food without it and he scarfed it right down.
