Found two small kittens, roughly 10 days old. They were freezing cold and I'm pretty sure a human urinated on them. I got them warmed up and they are now moving and crying. They won't take a syringe of KMR or the nipple. I don't know how to get them to eat.

They are dehydrated, but I don't have subs fluids right now

One of the. Keeps arching her back a lot.

Both urinating and popping when stimulated, urine is darker than it should be but not as bad as it can be

They still won't nurse at all. One seemed to latch on for a few seconds but I can't get them to latch fully [emoji]128557[/emoji]

Was hoping one of them was around.

Have you been able to check their mouths for any deformities? If not do so I'm trying to find similar threads right now to try getting the solutions mentioned before.

No, their mouths look fine, I checked them. One latched onto a nipple for a bit, but don't think they know what to do with it

I admit to only knowing what I've read and have no direct experience (just saying). But do you have cairo syrup by any chance? It would be placed right on the gums and I've seen it said here many times that it will help in many cases when a kitten isn't eating (due to a lack of strength).

The kittens are not going to use a bottle right off, at least not well if at all.

They of course still must eat, so you will need to use a syringe, tummy side down, tilt head slightly up while sitting on your lap or a table in front of you.

I like the table so I can see better just how much I am putting in.

Warm kmrso it feels warmer to your touch, as it cools fast. I keep a cup or bowl of very hot water with me to set the syringe or small dish with the warmed kmr in it, to float it on the hot water so it stays warmed during the slow feeding process.

Using a 1 ml syringe is always best as it gives much more control.

From the side of the mouth work the tip of syringe in, and drop just a drop or 2 at the most into the cheek area, they will fight it but tough, they must eat.

Wait to swallow and breathe, then repeat.

You want to feed them every hour today to get them rehydrated.

If they seem limp (you can tell but lifting by scruff, they should curl up somewhat rather than hang limp) then you can put honey or white caro syrup on the roof of their mouth or gums, this gives a jolt of sugar which stimulates for a short time to allow feeding help if they don't want to take it.

I will post more soon!

Thanks @Tsukiyomi

@Handsome Kitty

Hopefully someone will come soon. I don't know anything about kittens but do know they have to be kept warm in order to digest their food. You are probably doing that already though.

Bless you for taking these babies in. I am just horrified by how you found them. I hope you can save these dear little souls.

Around 10 days old or so they should weigh about 4.5 ounces, to figure out the appropriate amt to feed daily, it is extremely useful to be able to weigh daily, as you need a good 8+ gram gain every day.

For each ounce of weight they need 8 mls of kmr a day. So at 4.5 ounces, they will need at least 36 mls per day.

They need heat, such as a heating pad on low which is best, under them with a towel covering it.

Potty them often, at least after each feeding. Best when they first wake too so they will not be as squirmy while feeding.

Once the syringe has caught them up, start trying the bottle each feeding before the syringe. About the 4-5th time of trying, they will 'get it' and use the bottle, which is SO much easier!

I was using a 1cc syringe but the one wouldn't take it, but took to the nipple better... I've never had an issue with abandoned kittens and getting them to nurse.

It was actually a friend who found them, someone put them in a small box and said free cittens on it. I'm so angry. I called the Toronto animal services and they have a lactating mother right now, so they are going to bring them to the shelter

Thank you for your fast replays! This place is awesome

I just saw the other replys, thank you so much!

They were soaking wet whe. They brought them to my place and I think someone (human) urinated on them. I hate people so much sometimes.

I got them warmed up and dry. One was unresponsive when she first came, she looked 100% better when they left.

Hopefully they make it
