I have read many many times that one should feed a kitten as much as they want because they will never overeat and need the calories/nutrients to grow.
I am currently feeding my two 6.5 month kittens 4-5 times per day, which I am starting to find challenging as I will be spending more time away during the day (and what cat sitter can come over 5 x per day when I am gone???).
They only get wet food, and I am transitioning them to homemade raw. While I try to stick to set times, they do tell me when they want more food, and I will acquiese, so the timings are not rigid.
However, I have read that kittens 6 months and over, should be fed 2x per day. But how does that work?? If I leave more than the normal 60-80 grams per meal, they tend to not eat it, and I cannot leave raw food out for that long.
Will they learn to eat more per sitting if I insist on only feeding them 2-3 times per day? Seems unlikely, so I am perplexed.
I certainly do not want to starve them, but I'll also struggle to keep up with this schedule. Plus, I don't want them to be taking advantage and start getting fat! (the girl is definitely a little rotund around the middle).
Many thanks for your insight.
