I am hoping to get suggestions on my situation because I feel I have tried everything at this point.

I adopted a 9 week old kitten and I've had her for about 2 weeks now going on 3 weeks. I have a second spare bedroom where she stays.  I bought her a litter box with kitten attraction litter mixed with regular lightweight clumping litter at first and she wouldn't use it to poop. She would always poop in the same place under a desk in her room. I took the litter box and moved it under the desk where she was going poop. She used it once to poop and then decided to pick a new place to start pooping in her room. She is very good about urinating in the litter box though.

I talked to her vet and the vet suggested a second litter box. I put the second litter box where her new pooping spot was. She started to use it for about 2 days without any accidents but this morning I found poop on the floor again. I’ve also noticed that when she does go poop in the litter box, she doesn’t cover it and scratches the floor or on the outside of the litter box.

Her foster did have two litter boxes one with clumping litter and pine pallets so I tried the pine pallets but she wouldn’t go near it. I feel like she does go poop in the litter usually when we are home. It happens more often when we are away at work or during the night sleeping. During work and night I lock her in her room. I don’t want her roaming the house since I don’t trust her pooping situation yet when no one is home. I did allow her sleep in the bed last night but she pooped outside the box this morning.

The foster said she didn’t have a problem with her pooping so I have no idea what it can be at this point. Any suggestions??

Have you tried taking the poop on the floor and burying it in the litter box?  This is a trick I have used an it has helped.  Also be sure the litter box(es) are super clean.

What are you using to clean up the poop?  Cats have a great sense of smell and they will return to the same spot over and over again if a good enzymatic cleaner is not used.  You can find them at pet stores or even Home Depot or Lowes.

You could try using the same litter the foster used for her before. She might be extremely picky and doesn't feel comfortable pooping on the current litter you are using. If she does not use the litter she used to use before, you know that's not the problem at least.

You can also try to place the litter boxes far from one another, and also make sure the food and water isn't near it.

Are both litterboxes with or without a top? If it's with, try removing that (Some don't like it being closed). Is it open, try using a litterbox that you can put a top on (Some like it closed).

I think something of the things that I mentioned above will solve the problem. But you might want to try one thing at the time, so you know what the exact reason was.

No I haven't tried taking the poop and putting it in the litter box, that's a good idea. I was just using regular household cleaners to clean her poop so I will buy the enzyme cleaner. The first litter box wasn't fully closed but it had a boarder around it that came up half way but she didn't like that. She's not a big fan of closed things because I bought her a bed that was closed and she didn't use it either. Her food is on the other side of the room away from both litter boxes as well.

That doesn't mean she doesn't like a closed litterbox to poop on ;) I don't like to sit in small rooms all on my own either, but I still like my toiletvisits to be private and with a closed door. Some cats enjoy their privacy when it comes to litterbox visits, I would suggest trying a closed litterbox if all of the other opted ideas didn't work out ^^
