Posted a few weeks ago about my rescued kitten. Rescued her at around 6-8 weeks. Even though we rescued her, is that a normal age for kittens to be separated from the mom? Not sure though how long she was separated from her, if she was surviving by herself for hours or days, but when we found her she was pretty lethargic and barely moving much. Nursed her back to health pretty good and she is extremely rambunctious now.

We spend most of our time at home in the living room. We have many game systems, TV and laptops out there as well, so, lots and lots of amazing wires for her to play with. First is there anyway to train her not to chew/play with wires and cords?

Second, she jumps sometimes, like for instance, in the tub. But she will not jump onto the couch or bed, she decides to completely use her nails and climb all the way up, scratching up our new $900 couch and $1000 bed. Is there any way to either train her to jump on the couch, or get her off of the couch entirely?

Third, When we start getting somewhat annoyed with her playfulness, when she's completely scratching the couch or us or the cords, we lock her in our bedroom. She meows constantly. She doesn't eliminate outside the box or anything yet, just meows constantly for an hour or two before finally stopping, but she;ll continue soon after. Is this a sign that she was taken too soon from her mother, or just normal separation anxiety? Any way to remedy this? We have a very high energy Mini-pin /Chihuahua mix who's going to be starting training soon and i don't feel comfortable yet with the two of them left alone together. Is there a way to teach her its okay to be left alone? And I'm not so sure its the fact that she's alone or the fact that she's trapped in the room. Its a decent sized room and she has a whole bunch of toys inside.

Thanks for any help

I just looked back at your original thread when you found her. It's wonderful that you took her in.

Here's an old 'wire and cord chewing' thread that has some good ideas for that problem.  Of course it really needs to be addressed as it's dangerous for her.. and a very common problem.

Kittens do love to do the climbing thing.  Try giving her other ways to get up..  Do you have a scratching post for her?  That's pretty essential.  Also she's getting to an age where you can get her used to having her claws trimmed.  Here's our article on all things scratchy..

Finally, keeping her in the room... If it's really necessary and you have litter, food, water, playthings and maybe even a scratching post and/or a view, then she should get used to it.   I have to put my two away in a room for periods of time.  They just settle down now.  But remember with kittens they really do need lots of stimulation and time with you so that there will not be problems down the track.
