Persians - are they ugly?

Looking at some pictures of Persian cats i have to confess I don't get it. They look very, very squashed and ugly, much like bulldogs. Could anyone enlighten me in how to appreciate them?

I think all cats are lovely.

Granted, some persians look like they have a mean look on their faces, but i bet if you had one you would love it as if it was the best looking cat on the planet.

Some people may think Rosie is'nt all that, but to me she is!.

I think their grumpy faces are cute, especially when they're playing. Take a look in the 'Fur Pictures' forum, and you'll see lots of adorable pictures.

I wouldn't personally have a Persian, because their hair is just too much for me - I couldn't keep up with all of the brushing. I prefer cats closer to their natural state. But I understand that Persians usually have very calm, sweet temperaments to go with their grumpy faces.

I don't think any type of breed is ugly! I think they are all cute in their own special ways!

I also do not find Persians atractive, but all the ones I have ever been around have been very sweet.

They are little "funny faces", like pugs are. I personally don't like the flat faced look, but I have to say with all honesty, I've never met an "ugly" cat. Some funny looking ones, yes, and some bedraggled ones. But never an ugly one.

I'm not real fond of the flat faces, and I'm glad that Persians with noses are making a comeback, but they're generally very friendly. loving cats.

O.K., I've gotta throw my two cents in here, as I'm sure Sam and Tammie will when they come thru. I know I'm partial to Himmies, and they are just a color definition of Persian. Now, look below, and tell me these aren't the sweetest faces?

I'm not going to say anything for fear of the wrath of the scores of Persian breeders on this forum!

I think all cats are beautiful , no matter what kind of cats .

Some people just care for a breed or a other and thats ok . But I think to call a persian ugly is a little to far out there .

I of course don't think they are ugly, NO cat is! They may not appeal to some people but I don't see how you could call them ugly. I'm sorry but if you judge cats on how they look.. that's a very sad thing to do.As some of you know I got into an upset at this site before when stating something similar to this and it saddens me and that people can just come on here and class these kitties as ugly, thanks to the people that didn't and held their opinions in.

I don't think they are ugly. They aren't my favorite breed, but that picture Sam is so :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: cute. Its like she is saying with her eyes "What? You think I'm ugly?? You're so mean!"

I know, she's giving that "look" that the persians do.. AT least we know she's not ugly. Ha ha. Yup little Shimmer is in her first show on the 18th of Jan!

wow i can't believe you could make such a comment!!! To me a persian is the most beautiful cat ever!!!
In my eyes no other cat breed can compare with the persians large expressive eyes, round chubby cheeks and the softest fullest coats ever.

Take that pic of Sams kitten for instance, how could you think that was ugly??

Each to there own i guess, but i have owned moggies, and various other purebreds, but NOTHING beats the love and beauty a persian can offer.

And grumpy??!! ....



Thats just pure character

Well, I'm not a huge fan of Persians, but that kitten is ADORABLE. Besides tuxedo cats (which my Snowball is), I think Calico colored cats are the most stunning.

I could never call a cat ugly, I love all cats, I think its the personality that is more important as I do believe that cats have personality. They are magnificent creatures.

I hate the word ugly, its like putting things into categories, ugly people, ugly clothes, ugly things. Blah blah.

I had a persian who looked so grumpy that we named her after my dad and my brother - they looked grumpy and so we mixed their names together.
