i have cardboard incline scratcher, tall cat scratching post, scratcher lounge thing. he seems to love scratching the tall scratcher so i keep that one in the living room but still he scratches at the couches or rugs.

whenever i catch him scratching at places other than the scratcher i pick him up and put him at the scratcher immediately but then he runs away without continuing his scratching at the scratching post.

(i don't keep scratching posts close to the furniture and neither are they the same colour/texture as the rugs/couches. and he literally scratches at everything. even bedsheets.)

it's been almost 2 months but he doesn't seem to understand. what do i do?

Remember that scratching serves several purposes, one of which is scent marking. You may find the situation is helped by placing scratchers next to the furniture - pick the places he scratches the most. That was he has somewhere appropriate to scratch in that places that he feels he needs to 'own'. An alternative would be to consider the various types of furniture guards available. These range from sisal scratchers to Sticky Paws strips to clear vinyl panels that attach to your furniture. If you choose the deterrent methods, make sure he has somewhere close by that he can scratch. For every 'no' there has to be a 'yes'.

If you really are worried about your furniture, you can always consider Soft Paws claw covers. Once fitted, the cat can use his claws normally, but can no longer do any damage.
