Hi all, I hope someone can give me some kitty advice.  I have a bobtail cat who gave birth to some beautiful kittens. One of then is a van, but the tail is misformed:  Looks like a 1/2 tail then it stops and makes a 'u-turn'.  The part that is turned around does not look healthy. Smaller, and very little fir compared to the rest.  Will it 'fall off' or should I take it to the vet to 'bobbed'.  Any experience with this situation?  I thank you for your help.  JoeR

I don't think it will fall off.  It sounds like the bones don't go all the way to the tip.

Momma is hiding them from me, I think I handled them too much. so no pict at this time.  The rest of the kittens are bob tails at varied length.  One is a bit short, we can see the butt, so we are hopeful. The rest are1/4 to 1/2 length.  I hope 'Handsome Kitty' is right.  Once I find them again, I'll get a picture.(and not touch them).

Thanks all for the feedback.  JoeR

Crooked, kinked or curled tails are commonly seen in inbred cats, mating with immediate family members.

But what you described with the lower part being smaller makes me think it was choked off and not allowed to grow properly.

It won't fall off regardless. I'm also confident the bone goes all the way too. Otherwise it would hang limp at that end.

If the skin was able to grow, the bone did too, just may have not developed fully.
