Hi, so I got a new cat about 2 weeks ago she is 5 years old and missing a leg. She is sweet and cuddles a lot but she is scared of everything and that's to be expected when she is in a new environment. I took her to the vet a week and a half ago and she has a uti I've been giving her the meds after the visit. I know when a cat has a uti they don't like using the litter box so I have been keeping her in a small space but she pees and poops in the shower. So naturally I blocked it off. Then she moved to the floor by the toilet so I blocked that off. At this point I'm just getting a little frustrated.

So what I want to get advice on is this all due to the uti? What are your thoughts?

I do have another cat she is also a girl but for the most part they have been getting along pretty good just a few hisses from the new girl sometimes, but they snuggle. my first cat even likes to lick her new friend. I'm not sure what to do I've tried new litter and I've been feeding her soft wet foods . She does also have some serious teeth issues so it hurts her to eat and that's why I'm only giving her wet food till the vet cleans them next week.

A little more background on my new girl Sophia is she was a living in a wild cat colony and was trapped and neutered and set back out into the wild then she found a home with a man he wanted to keep her but he couldn't move with her so she ended up at a save shelter for cats and I between getting trapped and the shelter she lost one of her legs for an unknown reason.
I really love her and am trying to work with her but I need some advice.

Thanks y'all

UTI's can cause this behavior but it could also be behavioral especially if she has never been trained in a litterbox. DId she use the litterbox when you first got her home or has this behavior been consistent?

She has been trained to use the litter box. The first day we brought her home she used the litter box , but after that she hasn't. A few days after I got her I took her to the vet and got her a check up and he found she had a uti tape worms and her teeth problem. So she had these problems when I adopted her.

Well if this doesn't resolve with the UTI then it still may be, or has become a behavior problem and you may at some point want to post in Behavior.  But one day using the box isn't a great track record and she may need retraining.

What type of litter?

What type of box?

Where is the box located?

Is she pooping in the box and only peeing out of it?

I use an open shallow litter box. The first time she used it I had the petco Crystal litter. I have to box close by her because we are keeping her in the bathroom till this issue can be resolved. I let her out during the day until I go to bed. I tried some new litter the fresh step clumping but she hasn't used it yet. And she isn't using the box at all even to poop.
