Hi everyone. So a few days ago I took my little baby Zander to get neutered. This was Thursday, 8-20-15. When he came home he of course was very groggy and had sleepy eyes. I expected this. I let him rest with his water near by and a little food. The next day I figured he would be looking better but his eyes were still showing the inner eye lid. He also has some very loose stools. I figured it was probably just an affect of stress and anesthesia. Zander is very timid and he is practically afraid of his own shadow. He lets people pet him and he snuggles us, but I just thought maybe he was just so traumatized from surgery that this is why this could have been happening. Or maybe he was depressed idk! Anyway I started feeding him lighter meals and not his usual wet food just bc I thought it might have been too rough on his tummy after going through the anesthesia. He seems to be better now, he plays, runs, drinks water and is eating fine but sometimes his inner lids still show (not always) and I am still noticing loose stools. Although we have a regular vet I take both of my kitties to, I took him to get neutered at the local low cost spay and neuter place because it is significantly more affordable and they are well trusted. They also do free rabies shots and flea control etc. I actually just picked Ellie, my female up today after being spayed and she seems to be doing much better than him. Both of them have been to our usual/regular vet, and have been tested for all diseases, (both of them negative) checked for worms, and Zander had his first two distempers etc. (Ellie has had all of her shots bc she was a little older when I first started taking her) and they both have been treated for all worms including tapeworm etc. I am just confused about what is going on. It's like he seems to be doing great and getting better everyday and then he will have another runny stool or his kids will pop out! am calling the vet tomorrow to talk with them I am just so worried. I dont see anything really wrong with him other than the runny stool and inner eye lids showing. Has anyone every expressed this?! ... On a positive note he is being way more affectionate today, but part of me thinks he was just freaked out because Ellie wasn't here and she was getting her surgery. Lol I think he missed her because he has been laying with her while she recovers.

Actually the third eyelid can sometimes show when they have an intestinal problem.  It sounds like he may have a virus which may be causing the diarrhea and the runny stools as well as the third eyelid problem.   As much as the staff does try to screen them before surgery, cat that seemed healthy can still be incubating some illness and can pass it with a single sneeze, or Zander himself may have been incubating a virus and the stress of being neutered just brought it out.  I have seen that happen before, that just the stress will bring something on and it's too fast for it to actaully have been caught from another kitten. If the diarrhea persists and the inner eyelid stays visible, I would take him to your vet and tell him the whole history like you just told us and see what he has to say.  Unfortunately if it is a virus, it usually just has to run its course, but they can give you some medicine to help control the diarrhea and soothe his intestines.

Thank you for your response. That makes me feel a tad better. I guess it could be a virus just like us humans sometimes get. And it just has to run its course! I am still calling the vet today. The only reason I have waited is just because he will seem fine for a day and then it happens unexpectedly. Sorry for all the typos in my post earlier btw!! [emoji]128563[/emoji] lol I was typing fast and my phone autocorrects alllllllllll the time.

He is better. The vet said he had gotten slightly dehydrated. But with the runny stool and him being so little it was bound to happen. He just thinks the anesthesia was really rough on him and he gave me some probiotics for his tummy. He seems much better.

...with the cats...
i'm so glad your Zander is doing better!

it's something you might want to remember, that anesthesia was really rough on your boy, should Zander ever need anesthesia again. i'm sure your vet made note of that on your boy's chart.
