I adopted my 2 year old tortie female when she was 6 months old, and she had issues with sores/hair loss since she arrived at the shelter when 2 months old. I finally found a veterinary dermatologist who diagnosed her with food allergies as well as inhalant allergies. She prescribed her Royal Canin PR and Atopica liquid, which has greatly reduced her symptoms, with a few sores only every 5 months or so. Does anyone out there have a cat with similar issues, and how have you been dealing with them? thanks much!

My 13 year old has VERY bad food allergies. He would get purple cysts in his ears and ear infections regularly from scratching so much. Basically I just started feeding him science diet d/d and his issues almost completely disappeared. It's so bad that if he even gets one bite from any other food it's like instant infection. Basically in 5 years the only thing I found that works for him is to find a regiment that works and stick with it. Don't change a thing. Trying out different foods can actually make them develop even more allergies, or so i've read on a few different sites.

My cat, Dear Daisy, is 10 yrs old and we have been dealing with allergies for the past 5 years!  She was on prednisone for 5 yrs, but that stopped working earlier this year, so we switched her to Atopica.  It took a good 2 weeks before it kicked in, but once it did, she has been able to live a normal life ever since.  I had her on daily dosing for 10 weeks, then backed off to every other day dosing for 8 weeks, now I have her allergies controlled at only three doses a week!  She would not eat any of the specialty diet foods at all.  Once her allergies we controlled, her derm vet let her go back to the old food she enjoyed and she ate it readily!  She gained all her weight back and the Atopica continues to work wonderfully!
