Hi everyone! So little McCarthy has been taking KMR formula for the 5 weeks he has been here. He is eating canned food too. Is there a need for second step milk?

How old is he?  What, EXACTLY, is second step milk?  I've never heard of that before.

He is 5 weeks....its just the next step up from colostrum milk. But I think because he is eating solids he may be ok

So you've had him since the day he was born?  Oh my goodness....he's a real bottle baby, isn't he?  Let's consult with the Kitten thread gurus  (I'll ask that this thread be moved over there for you)

Nay, the second step is  dont necessary at all.  If you by any reason want to continue with kmr, continue with the usual first stage.   Or go change into goat milk (which is really a cheat, as goat milk is OK also for small kittens - but its also a nice supplement for older cats, if you by any reason want to supplement older cat with milk).

But as said earlier, if he already had began with canned, dont bother at all.  Just use finish the first stage kmr, by giving him somehting extra to sleep on...   :)

If you think you will proceed with rescue / foster, its wise to have some kmr in reserve.  You can froze the powder, so it keeps much longer.
