Am getting anxious. Taking my 2 juvies to the vet for the first time tomorrow. No problems, just a "get to know you" visit as I haven't used a vet in years. Their last vet visit was in the spring prior to my adopting them.

I don't think I am going to have any problem getting them into the carrier as I purposely left it out since bringing them home in early June and they go in and out of it especially since I frequently give them treats in it. The carrier was always a problem with my former kitties. Always a battle and soooooo stressful. Trying to be smarter this time.

I am going to use some calming spray just prior to putting them inside which hopefully will help them during their ride. Fortunately, the vet is only a few minutes away.

Any other thoughts or helpful hints?

My last kitty Tiger hated the carrier until I got her one that opens from the top.  Then I got smart and kept the top off and put her own soft fuzzy blankets in the bottom half and let her sleep in it while she was at home. It was never a problem after that. Feliway Diffusers work great too!   Now I have 2 kittens and they at least aren't afraid of their carriers...Some people say their kitties feel better if their carriers are covered, mine didn't seem to like that.  Don't forget to breath-- kitties can pick up on the stress vibes you put out.  Glad they are going for a check up- good luck and let us know how they do!

So happy they're going for a check up!  Unless you have any concerns, The kitties will pick up on your stress, so if you're not stressed out, they will be less stressed out.  I have 4 cats.  Two LOVE being let out of their carriers when in the exam room and are happy to jump and explore the room.  One is semi-okay with it, but my big baby HATES it.  He cowers with his head tucked in my armpit every time we take him to the vet.  So, be prepared for how they respond to being out of their carrier.  Also, I always take along an interactive toy (fleece on a wand or something like that) just in case we have to wait awhile in the exam room.  I just tuck it under their towel or fleece in their carrier.  Since they've never been to this vet, take along any paperwork you have for them from the adoption group.

Just got home. Everything went perfectly! They went right into their carrier to have some treats and easily closed the door. Neither ever made a peep the whole time. They were perfect kitties. Vet was very pleased with their conditions. Very healthy and well taken care of. Desi 9.7 lb and Lucy 7.9.

They were so good in their carrier that we made a stop on the way home. Of course, as soon as we got home and I opened the carrier door they were gone and under the bed.
