Xena, my female orange and white tabby has an interesting habit that I thought I would share.  Hopefully, after reading this you will add to the thread with other quirky habits your cat has.

So... Xena absolutely positively cannot stand being picked up. She hates it and fights to be put down every  time I attempt to hold her.  After being scratched more times then I cared for, I stopped picking her up.  She also doesn't like being touched for too long.  She will let me touch her exactly 3 or 4 times before she moves away from me.  However,  I discovered that if I want Xenas attention all I have to do is go into my bathroom and sit down.  Each and every time she runs  into the bathroom wanting to be rubbed.  And if the door is closed she protests on the other side of the door to be let in. She walks in and out of my legs, rubbing her head against me.  She will stand up and put her legs on me so I can rub her ears, and she even makes the cutest chirping noise as all of this is taking place.  The moment I leave the bathroom she is back to her normal self.  I love her quirky personality though. So in order for me to get attention from her I have to go and sit on my commode.  Otherwise she will have nothing to do with me !

There's a vicious cat at the shelter - he's sent a number of people to the ER - who's a bit quirky, to say the least. He has a "thing" for the 5-liter pitcher we use to fill water bowls. As soon as he sees it, he runs over and squawks for you to set it down. Then he takes a drink, puts both front paws on the rim and tips it over. Then he sloshes in the water. He won't do it with the smaller 2-liter pitcher or a bucket - it has to be that particular pitcher. The other cats look at him like he's nuts.

Washing pebbles....ha ha! That's definitely quirky.  Wonder what he was trying to accomplish.

My childhood cat, a calico named Sheba, was largely an indoor cat but took out her hunting instincts on our socks!  She was constantly stealing them and dragging them to the basement.  She would even sometimes take underwear.  She also liked to raid my jewelry box and steal one chain in particular - a plain silver one.  She would dump the box on the floor, paw through the tangle of necklaces until she found that particular chain.  Whenever we were missing items we usually found them in a pile beside her litter box!  The funniest though, was the time she had kittens.  I was lying on the couch and heard a muffled mew.  She waltzed into the room where her kittens were playing with a pair of socks in her mouth and she dropped them at the kittens' feet and mewed at them.  She was teaching them to hunt socks!

My Rainbow cat Milo would not allow me to keep anything on the night table beside my bed except the lamp. As soon as I put something on it, he knocked it off. He soon had me trained to keep everything on the floor nearby. This was the only place he "groomed" but he was quite insistent. This surface had to remain clear. Goofball!

Ha! I am so happy that I am not the only one with a quirky cat! Please keep the stories coming ! I keep reading them to Xena and Frankie . Of course I am getting the yawn from them that tells me they're bored... But at least I'm not! Thanks everyone who shared their story.

When I was a kid we had a big tomcat named Ernest whom was my favorite cat.  We also had a Siamese named Soxie.  I guess ole Ernie knocked Soxie up.  (I'm come to realize now that I'm an adult, which is even funnier because they are so much now, weren't exactly responsible pet owners... then again, they didn't want them).

I guess when Soxie had the kittens my old man had enough with cats, which he didn't like the first place.  I don't remember what lie they told me, but my dad took the Siamese and all the kittens to the shelter.  Then he looked at Ernie.  Huge, mackerel short hair.  Probably 15 in shape and 20 overweight.  Ears looked like saw teeth, visible scars across his nose and around his mouth.  Dad figure he'd never have a chance for adoption, so he went an dumped it in a rural area figuring his chance on survival on his own or finding a barn or something was better than the shelter.  I'm sure they told me he ran off, he went away a lot... he wasn't neutered and I'm sure had a large territory.

A couple months later I hear the trademark pounding on the storm door and there he was, meowing for food.  I didn't know what happened but I bet my old man crapped his pants.  That cat who was born in our house and had never been anywhere aside from where he roamed walked back several miles and found out house.

After that, my old man fed him, bought him a heating pad for his room and took him until the vet until his demise.  Had him until I was well in high school.  Wish I had a picture, but that was too long ago and if I found one I'd have to scan it and well, he wasn't the prettiest cat anyway.

@Margd  made me think of Grizzly's similar habbit:

When I sit at the desk I have my pc on, I have all sorts of things on there.. My coffee, my water, my vitamins, my tobacco, the rolling papers, the filters, the lighter, my handcreams, my keys, several pens...

So, when Grizzly gets bored of me sitting too long at the desk and not give him much attention, he has a standard route:

Hops on the bed, walks on the bed side table, then hops on the desk. He starts wandering around the desk.. looking around, sniffing... Looking for trouble. He then goes to the lighter and knocks it off the desk.. Just the lighter. Nothing else! Maybe sometimes the rolling papers as well.. But the lighter is the standard victim!

The 1st time he did it, I went ballistic, cause that day I had an achy shoulder from an accident (over a year ago), so I couldn't reach it sitting on the chair to the floor.. He was almost 2 months old then..

I'm guessing he felt that this is a good way to get my attention every time he feels "left out" or bored.. So he keeps doing it, even while I sleep.. It still irritates me like the 1st time, but I do find it funny at the same time.. If I don't react, he starts knocking off my pens as well.. Anything that will produce noise when it hits the floor and gets my wound up and - of course - to wake up.. I am so putting a permanent rug on that part of the floor.. He'll get maaaad...! Hahahah!

I am sure he has other quirky habbits.. But I cannot think of one right now.. I'll come back when I do

Ha! Ha! Your desk sounds like the table where I draw and have my computer. All kinds of things are on it but Chula and Paul like to lie on it so they just push everything out of the way and flop.

Grizzly is so cute in his photos!

Keeker has a habit of stashing things under throw rugs!  Anything he can find... popcicle sticks, scraps of paper, emery boards, pens and pencils, cottonballs... you name it, it's probably been under one of my rugs!

A friend was over one evening and we were at my computer doing a bit of research. She wanted to take some notes and asked me for a pen. I said, "Oh, there's one under the rug in the kitchen". She just looked at me stupid. I told her that was the last place I saw it, so she reluctantly got up and went to the kitchen.

Then I heard her say, "Are you feeling OK"?  I told her I was just fine and asked her why. As she walked back toward me with the pen in hand, she stared at me and said, "Because you have some strange sh*t under your rug"!

Thanks! On the 2nd photo, he's after the Post-Its.. He threw them down after this photo was taken.. LOL But he does like to press the keys on my keyboard.. It's so funny when he does that!
Of course, he manages to start various programs (especially the torrents) or to crash the pc from time to time..

Maybe one of the other workers can get a shot of our little ritual. :lol3: This is Panther, the culprit:

We've got another quirky cat named Paulchen, but "Pigpen" would be more suitable. He loves to take dust baths and won't walk around a muddy puddle, but right through it. People are always asking why he's so dirty - he likes it that way!

I've been reading while I ate lunch and all of these are too funny. I have to add one about my Rainbow kitty Ghost....

His favorite thing was to lie on his back on the floor under the edge of the bed and start at one corner of the bed and pull himself on the floor. It was so funny. He would grab hold of the mattress and start pulling himself around the whole edge of the underside of the bed. And you better not try to stop him or you will pay with a slap to the hand. He also loved to chase shadows on the wall.

It's funny because I had never seen a cat do that before and the other day Zander was doing the same thing except she was under the edge of the kitchen cabinets pulling herself across the floor. She also likes the shadow chasing too.

They are both beautiful. gorgeous eyes on both. Panther has a doppelganger

This is Henry's photo from the shelter...  they could be twins.
