I posted yesterday about my kitty hops recovering from pancreatitis. I feel like I'm going crazy. Yesterday he was having diarrhea and looked uncomfortable and nauseous but later in the evening he seemed better after he had the diarrhea. I called the vet today and let him know and he gave me regalan and endosorb in addition to the zolfran, metronidazole and clavamax he was already taking. Unfortunately now he looks even more miserable. He seems like he's struggling not to vomit every time he moves. He will get up relocate but get into a tight crouch position and lick his lips and swallow hard like he's burping stuff up. He hasn't pooped all day and I'm worried he's now constipated maybe? He's got a feeding tube in and I felt bad even putting a small amount of food in but I know he's better off with food in his system. I'm going crazy I feel like nothing is helping him and I hate seeing him so miserable [emoji]128546[/emoji]

Hello Hopsmama, I haven't really got anything to suggest but just wanted to let you know that my cat did recover from pancreatitis. (Eva) had pancreatitis earlier this year, she stopped eating was vomiting occasionally, drinking more water than usual. I took her to the vet on the day after she stopped eating, they decided to keep her in, gave her fluids and I'm not sure what meds. She is back to normal now, luckily after a couple of days with the vet she started eating again- and didn't need the feeding tube! Eva would do the crouch position I think this is when they get some pain, and liking lips is a sign of nausea! Maybe contact the vet again if you are still concerned and have seen no improvement! You are doing all the right things. Keep us posted

Pancreatitis makes your cat feel very bad, and the only real care for it is supportive. It seems like they are doing all they can to support your guy. Is he on some pain meds? Usually licking of lips is a sign of nausea, I wouldn't be so concerned about constipation unless you don't see him go for a couple of days. Has he had his blood sugar tested? Diabetes and pancreatitis can go hand and hand, but not always. In the US cerenia works well for nausea, and 1/4 of a 10mg pepcid 2x a day is usually given. Keep up the feeding, it will be a lot worse if he doesn't get the proper nutrition.

Thank you I think you might be right on the pain. We have an appointment first thing in the morning to get his bandage changed for his feeding tube. I'm going to ask for some pain meds for him. Hate to have him be uncomfortable through the night but I don't think I should take him to the ER or should I?

When did you last speak to the vet? The pain is unlikely to be a new thing- as they do get pain with it, however if he looks uncomfortable - it would probably be best to discuss things again with the vet! I really feel for you it's horrid watching them when they are unwell. Keep us posted on developments :vibes:

Thanks saw the vet this morning. Vet agreed that he was uncomfortable but he think the pain is coming from bowel irritation from all the stuff the pancreatitis releases. He did have a fever of 104 but when taken at the end of the visit it had dropped to 103 so they are thinking it might be a response to the pain and stress. Oddly they also heard a slight grade 2 heart murmur on the left side that wasn't there before but the vet thinks it might be a stress response also since his lungs sound clear and his red blood cell count was good but now we are monitoring his respiratory rate. He did get an injection of bupenex for the pain and he got a different antibiotic and is now in a low residue food instead of the a/d which might have been a little heavy for him. Hoping today and tonight will be better it's hard seeing him like this.

So glad you took him back to the vet; pancreatitis is very painful.  The shot of  bupe will help, but I wonder if your kitty needs a few days supply of the oral type; it will only last for about 8-12 hours.  My kitty was sensitive to it, I could only give her .02 at a time.  Also, I hope your vet told you that Ondansetron(Zofran) needs to be given twice daily;whereas Cerenia (16mg pill form, which you will divide into 4 pieces) is only once a day.   It helped me to try and stay ahead of the pain and nausea.

Metronidiazole can be very effective for diarrhea; it worked so well I only gave it for 2-3 days and it can cause constipation just so you know.  I am praying for your kitty to feel better, hope he feels better tonight.
