Hi everyone, I'm new on TCS.

We have two girls who we adopted as kittens. Kit is our white and charcoal grey cat and kitty is our charcoal grey cat. They're both sisters and are about 18months old.

Our cats were purely house cats and only ever went out into our garden. About 3 -4 weeks ago, both of our cats were standing beside our front door, when Kit suddenly wandered off when we took our eyes of her! :(

She went missing, and we were mortified and heartbroken. We knew she couldn't climb or jump and she knew nothing of the outside World, we spent the night looking for her and calling her name and using torches to try and spot her. Kitty accompanied us on our search and got a taste of the outside World for the first time ever- she loved it.

Thankfully, Kit returned 36 hours later.

As a result of looking for Kit, Kitty now began to love the outdoors. She would ask to be let out of the front door and would wander in the driveway and go to the next 3 houses and always returned. She knew her way home and knew her meal times.

On Monday 17th of August, I gave Kit and Kitty their steak for dinner, and kitty went out like she has been doing for the past week or two.

The latest she had even been back was when she did an all-nighter and returned at 6am.

This time, she didn't return.

Kitty is brave, loves to hunt, and has some climbing and jumping ability, unlike her sister. She even began jumping through the garden gate to get out to the street, which is what she did the night she went missing. I say through, and not over, because the gate has a square cut out so you can put your hand through and unlatch the door to let yourself in. Kitty used this square as a flap!!

So these are the facts:

1- Kitty knows exactly where she lives.

2- She knows when her meal times are.

3- She always came home.

4- Never went beyond a 6 house maximum radius.

5- Never went beyond our street.

6- Kitty loves her food and isn't the sentimental type of cat. Her food was always #1 for her.

The fact she knows where she lives, and has the ability to climb and jump, (albeit not to the extent of an outdoor or street-wise cat) eliminates the possibility of her being lost or stuck.

The only possibility I'm left with, is that somebody has taken her. This seemed like the only possibility for me, and for everybody else that knew her. Everybody said she was so pretty.. and even a neighbour said "somebody's got her."

Kitty is spayed, microchipped and was wearing a reflective collar the night she went away. We're all so shocked, and devastated and her sister is so distressed.

She's now been missing for 9 days. What are the possibilities of finding her? Is there still a chance she would come home? But then if she could, she would have, wouldn't she? So does that confirm that somebody has her?

Thank you.

Do not give up hope.  Have you gone door to door asking your neighbors?  Have you put up lost cat posters?  Have you put fliers in mailboxes?  What about going to vet offices to place fliers there too?

Here are some links to help with finding a lost cat:

I hope you are able to find her soon.  When she returns you might want to decide to keep her inside or build an enclosure to keep her safe and in your yard.

Keep us updated.

You should also call animal control and shelters to see if she was turned in.

Ask neighbors to look in their garages and sheds as well.

I'm hopefully assuming they are spayed correct?

Cats truly do love the outdoors. The dangers though outweigh this, so I personally have a cat proof large backyard, so they get the best of both worlds and stay safe.

I suggest you consider doing this, but at the very least, GET HER MICROCHIPPED!

9 days does seem really long for her to be away on her own, if she is not afraid of dogs, this would be a concern, if she is not street/car smart, this is as well.

If she is super friendly to strangers I would guess someone else has her.

SO....put flyers up all over the area and offer a reward! If someone does have her they are not bonded with her yet, and money talks. This could be how you get her back.

Def. do not give up hope though, cats will work their way back home, it may take time even, especially if she is kept inside someone's home.

Thank you ShadowsRescue. It really means a lot.

We have asked some neighbours, and have just printed our posters to put up around the neighbourhood and through people's letter boxes.

Thank you for the helpful links, I'll have a read through them, and will keep you updated.

Yes, we called our local one today, and also called the council to let them know she's missing. The council have also put our missing poster up on their website.

The posters that we'll be putting around, and through people's doors request that people look in their garages etc.

Thank you for your helpful suggestions.

Thank you so much for your support and helpful advice.

Yes, as mentioned in the OP, they've both been spayed and are microchipped. :)

To have a catproof garden would be amazing, but it's not practically feasible here. :(

Hmm... we have seen here around cars, when we were out with her looking for Kit.. she always went low and hid from them, which is a good sign?

She can be friendly to strangers sometimes, but I think that's because it's in our house, and she trusts us? But she does love her food, so my concern is that someone offered her food and then took her.

Yes, I think you're definitely right about the reward concept. We've included that in our poster, thank you! :)

Kitty is still not back. :(

We've been to the lost dog's home, alerted the council, local vet and pounds and handed out posters to them.

We've also Hung posters up around the area, posted leaflets through people's letterboxes around the area. Stuck posters up at the local supermarket, fish and chips, newsagent, post office and butchers.

We made a facebook page for her, and joined all the lost and found cat pages in our area and locality, but still nothing. :(
