My outside cat Tiger brought me a kitten two weeks ago & I am feeding the kitten and giving it toys to play with but it won't come close enough to me so that I can catch it.  I've tried trapping it to no avail and now I need help before it becomes winter.  Even though my Tiger has his own igloo and this cat can also fit in it, he'll be too small to withstand our cold winters.  It is so adorable and since I have a young cat as well, I think the kitten will be a good pal for him but first I have to catch it and take him/her to the vet!

Hi. Welcome. I'm new myself but love it here. I'll give this a shot but there are some really experienced folks here that I'm sure can chime in with even better thoughts. Here's mine:

- You're right. You'll need to catch the kitten. Sooner won't hurt.
- If standard traps won't work (there are many effective ones but time is the magic ingredient), you may have to net. It's not always easy but you do have some control that you don't have with a trap.
- A good winter shelter, preferably with a lot of insulation or with a small heat source could make all the difference. I've wintered cats less than a year old, still with their kitten fur, by giving them a small insulated shelter with a contact heating pad and plenty of nearby food and water. However, they also had the benefit of another kitten or cat to share warmth.

Ultimately, if you can capture, treat and plan for survival you'll have the best chance for success. I'm always quite surprised at the ability for cats to survive circumstances that we'd likely give up on.

Keep us up to date, ok!!
