I have recently adopted a kitten from a friend who's fur baby had a litter. I have always been allergic to cats, but only those wearing flea collars. At Uni I temporarily cared for a stray who I named Clive, before we chip checked and then adopted him out as my housemate had a rabbit. I wasn't in the slightest sensitive to him. Nor was I sensitive to Nina, my mum's landlord's cat, UNTIL she started wearing a flea collar. So I adopted Mojo as my own present to myself for my 24th Birthday.
Until now I've had no allergies to her, I rub my face on her in response to her face rubbing and I comb her as well, which, if I was allergic to cats themselves would surely get some reaction.
I've never had a cat to call me her pet so I was overjoyed when I got her. We got her Jabs last weekend, the vet checked her over, perfect size weight for her 11 weeks and she has been a Joy. The vet gave me a frontline treatment for kittens and advised that though she had no sign of fleas to use it anyway. I have and it seems I'm allergic to this too.
The active ingredients are: Fipronil and Methoprene, this is all that is on the packet. I have no idea what the active ingredient is in Nina's collar but Mum will check for me tomorrow.
can anyone tell me:
are these the same as in flea collars?
Is it safe to only treat her if she shows signs of fleas?
I know kittens can quickly be over come by fleas at what age does this danger lessen?
I've used a spray in the house before can this be effective on its own as I showed no signs of allergy with this.
Mojo is and will forever be an indoor only cat BUT we have cat visitors on the mat as there are many large cats in our area.
thanks in advance for replies. I just want the best for her, but I don't want to risk my health.
