A colleague of my mother's has left for a month's holiday, while we cared for her cat. We discovered after a couple of weeks that the cat was pregnant, and there was no way the owner could have known about this. The cat is now very heavily pregnant and starting to look uncomfortable. I wouldn't be surprised if I woke up next morning to kittens. The cat will be going back home in a couple of days, but if she doesn't hold on to her belly until then, what is the best course of action? How old do kittens need to be to travel in the car for 10 minutes to a new location?

- This isn't the cat's first litter.

The kittens will be fine to move 10 minutes down the road at any time. They can be placed inside the cat carrier with mom.

Your friend had to know her cat was pregnant. She's seen it before. Cats show pregnancy signs about 3 weeks along. She just didn't mention it to you, or she did not admit it to herself. She needs to get her cat spayed after this litter. It's cruel and unhealthy to allow a cat to breed non-stop. The procedure is easy, and your friend can clearly afford it.

In the meantime, please make a nest for the cat in a corner of a bedroom. Show it to her. Cats need a private place to give birth.

Is the cat showing any signs of labor yet? Discharge, vulva dilating, tummy rippling in waves, moving from spot to spot every few minutes?

You are a good friend to keep her pregnant cat for a month while she vacations. I hope she brings you gift :).

The cat gave birth two two healthy kittens on some cushions about an hour ago.

My 'friend' (I've actually not met her yet, she's my mother's colleague- my mother doesn't like computers) isn't exactly perceptive from what I've heard.

What do you mean by perceptive?

Congratulations on the kittens.  Post some pictures if you can.

Can you move them to a nest in a quiet place?

I'm glad they are healthy.

I did read the whole thread but it's unclear to me.  She didn't say if she has contacted her mother's friend, just that her mother doesn't like the computer.
