I don't know much about fleas having been extremely fortunate with my indoor cats. I do know from reading other threads that flea collars are not recommended - some brands like Hartz have actually produced toxic effects in cats wearing them. The only time I see them recommended is to put them in vacuum bags to kill fleas vacuumed up. The two flea treatments frequently recommended are Advantage and Revolution. You might call your vet to see about prescription treatments as well. Good luck! I had a dog once who had a flea problem so can sympathize with what a pain this is!

Fleas are terrible to deal with!  When I moved into a new apartment, there were fleas in the carpet, and it took me nearly two months to eradicate them.   Flea baths with Blue Dawn dish soap didn't work that well for me, but my kitten also hates baths and it was almost impossible to bathe her.   The two biggest things that worked for me were using a topical flea medicine ( I used Revolution), and sprinkling Borax on the carpet.  You can pick up Revolution or Advantage at most vet's offices, and if the fleas are bad, I would recommend Capstar pills. As for the Borax, I sprinkled some on all of my carpets and let it sit for a few hours, then vacuumed it up.  (You can also put pieces of a flea collar in your vacuum so it stops the eggs from hatching and escaping.) I also made sure my kitten wasn't in the room until the Borax was gone, since I didn't want her accidentally swallowing any.  Oh, and also, if you can get a flea comb, it really helps to comb your cats several times a day and drown any fleas you find in a cup of warm, soapy water.  Hope some of this can help you and you get rid of the little bloodsuckers soon!
