This is insane to me.

Here is this baby's story! It's horrible! But not anymore, we are his new furever family now, me, my hubby, and his 6 brothers and sisters!

The picture above is when I was fostering him while he was waiting for his furever home. I thought I had found the perfect family, but turns out I was more than wrong.

His story began when I got a call wondering if I could foster a kitten who had been dumped out on a dirt road that was full of dogs. I didn't hesitate, so he was with me for a month and a half before I found his "home". I had him neutered and got his shots before he went to his new home.

Well, fast forward 3 weeks later, to this week...and the dumb lady calls me and tells me he was attacked by a dog and she took him to their Animal Control out in bum f*** nowhere because she couldn't afford his care.

I flipped my lid. I told her multiple times to call me if ANYTHING ever happened, no questions asked! And she took him to one of the worst AC facilities known around here! I called them immediately, and luckily they had not put him down yet, so I told them to please wait and I would be there first thing in the morning. I went and got him and it broke my heart. When I seen him, he rolled over to show me his belly, meowed, and purred...he was so happy to see me!

He was covered in ticks and fleas!!!!!!

I knew he had a hurt leg, and some lacerations, but did not know what was going on until we got back home and got him to the vet.

He was ALMOST DEAD. He had 106.2 fever, infection, and a broken humerus! He began panting soon after I got him to the vet. They gave him antibiotics, fluids, and pain meds immediately. His surgery for rods and pins is Monday and he will be non-weight bearing.

This poor baby was on deaths door and his medical bills costs me $1,100...luckily they let me sign a contract for his care because I do not have that kind of money to just put out there! I gave them $100 and they went to work on this precious angel! I am so thankful they did this for me! It was either that, or have him euthanized...NO WAY! He is our baby now and he will be spoiled!

Please be careful when rehoming, you NEVER know and they can fool you! Also please think twice before letting your pets outside...this happened all because he went outside.

This was him right before the vet yesterday. :(

I just don't understand people. Why adopt a living creature if you aren't going to look after it properly? Poor little guy. I hope the surgery goes well and he makes a full recovery.

Poor Kitten! It's horrible to think that some people just adopt an animal and then neglect them that way. He was really lucky that you were called in time to save him. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Do you make your adopters sign a contract?

I have one that states they will return the cat to me if they aren't able to keep them for any reason.

I'm glad he's going to be staying with you from now on.

That is one nightmare adoption story.

Did this lady sign any kind of a contract? Did you do a home visit? I'm asking because if she defaulted on the contract, you might be able to go to small claims for the vet bill. If he had ticks, she had him outside. [emoji]128548[/emoji] I just don't understand why people want animals then literally dispose of them.

Poor guy. He looked so happy in the first picture. The second one made me cry. I hope the surgery goes as expected , or better. No kitten deserved this. I hope you can turn her in to the SPCA or something...she needs to be permanently banned from adopting any more animals. I am so, so sorry this happened to you and to that pretty little boy. What she did is animal abuse and neglect, no doubt about that.

Sadly, she did not sign a contract. This had made me realize what I need to change in the future whenever it comes to if I EVER have the heart to ever foster and adopt out another kitty again. I should have done that. I should have better documented her information. We talked for such a long time and she was so happy to get him, or so she acted like she was. I thought our talk and keeping each others' info, as well as me stressing for her to call me if anything ever goes wrong or she changes her mind, no questions asked. She had NO RED FLAGS and that just made me realize no one can ever be trusted, no matter what they say or how they say it!

What makes this even worse is that she still has his brother too. I have called and called, left voicemails and texted her, wanting to get Sam back as well. She has gone completely silent. I am going to contact the AC facility and ask them if they could please contact her to see if she will surrender Sam back to me. They know her address, I do not. We met halfway as she lived two cities over. I am just completely heartbroken about this. I have fostered and homed so many babies, and I have never had this problem and I get updates from ALL of them on the babies I gave them.

I am going to let them know that he was covered in ticks and fleas, as well as his condition now that he's gotten care, and ask them to please help me in getting his brother back from her because what she has done is neglect and abuse and I can bet everything she is doing the same to him.

Can you contact law enforcement? Can they help? Some can--many cant.

You could always drive down her street and just happen to have a carrier in your car...

I wish I would have made the drive to her house so I knew where she was! We met halfway since she was so far away from where I live and I knew my car wouldn't make it! I am going to contact her city's animal control Monday and see if they can help, if not I will contact their police department. The only way I was able to go get him Friday was from a dear friend driving me there and back. My car would have broken down on that hour drive there or at least during the drive back, I bet.

I am going to do all I can to get Sam back. I am so devastated!

This story just breaks my heart.  That poor baby.  I'm so glad you have him back and hope that he will be okay after his surgery.  I just don't understand how people can be so cruel.   It is very upsetting that they are not getting back to you about Sam.  These people are clearly unable to take care of their cats - if they really had the best interest of the cats at heart, they would return Sam to you in a heartbeat.  I really hope you are able to get him back.  And in the meantime, best wishes, for your poor little boy.  Hoping and praying that he will be well.

How terrible for this little guy, but I'm so glad he's back with you and safe!  How did he do at the vet's today? Did he have his surgery?

Thank you all so much! He has not had his surgery yet, unfortunately...so he is still stuck in kitty hospital! His fever had went back up and keeps yo-yoing and they did not want to do the surgery this morning because of it! It was down to 100.9 this afternoon, so everyone is crossing their fingers hoping it will be the same in the morning and then he will finally have his surgery!

On another note, I have seriously raised over $500 to help cover some of the costs of his vet bill! I did the fundraiser just for kicks really, but could not believe the response! It has been amazing for sweet baby Oliver!

I have yet to hear anything on Sam. I contacted the Animal Control in her city, but they said there was nothing they could do, or they would do it for me. :( Just so ridiculous!

Great work with the fund raising. I hope he's OK for surgery soon. Poor little guy, what a thing to go through at his age.

I wonder if there is any other way of tracking this woman down? It's awful knowing she still has one kitten after what happened to Oliver.

I don't have any suggestions, but vibes for Sam and Oliver.

Aw, that picture breaks my heart. [emoji]128531[/emoji] Was there nerve damage? Is that why his paw seems affected? Can I ask why there's no cast? I am not at all familiar with humerus bone breaks in cats, but they sling people. Will physical therapy be possible once the bone heals?

Sending good vibes to Oliver. Did the vet find any other injuries? From the dog? Seems if a dog bit or threw a dog enough to break bone in his upper leg (odd place? My rb kitty was bitten by a dog and it was on torso and broke skin and fractured her rib and the vet said it was a pretty common kind of dog bite), anyway, seems he'd have other injuries, but you didn't mention any? (Tg if not). Just wondering. But either way, sending prayers to Oliver for a fast recovery. [emoji]128537[/emoji] Praying you can get his brother, too!!

That vet did a great job. And yes, you should be right to be concerned. I also cannot imagine a dog being able to put this much pressure on a limb without taking skin off. It also is in the wrong place for a dog bite. IMHO. Dogs would go for an easier mark not a place on the body so close to the claws, kitten or not. That's why my cat was bitten in the torso. Tiny bite, twisted rib fracture, missing skin (exactly where my sisters dogs teeth were which is what bit my cat but don't get me started.)

I read up a little online and they said most feline broken humerus bones came from being hit by a car, or, sometimes, extreme malnourishment can cause it to break if the cat jumps from a high enough height.

It's these kinds of stories that make me wonder if I could ever volunteer for a shelter or rescue group.  I think I'd be crying all the time.

So sorry about your baby @misterwhiskers  that is just awful. :( Yeah when I was reading up on that, it is what I saw too. I feel more would have been done with getting ran over as well, but I don't know. I feel it would have been more likely that it happened from a jump than a car, given his condition. That was the only break and only problem, besides him being covered in ticks and fleas. He did have a couple of cuts, but they were small and scabbed over, and just reminded you of small cat scratches. They told me they could not rule out a dog attack, but that they would never know for sure exactly what happened. Everyone up there is just loving him, talking about how sweet of a baby he is. He really is! His temperment is so sweet, I don't know how anyone could harm him and neglect him as they did. He gets to come home with me in the morning and he is doing wonderful! <3

I too thought I would be too emotional for rescue, but we are the best people for those babies! I would say it gets easier, but it doesn't, but you save so many babies and sometimes you are the only love they know and that is everything to them. I have lost two bottle babies this year and it really really took it's toll on me. I tried EVERYTHING to save them, but it just wasn't enough. :( I think it toughened me up some, but I know if I ever went through it again (I know I will) that I would be the same emotional wreck...but that is just it...our hearts are so big for these babies, and we can do so much for them to help them! The reward of knowing you did all you could and showed each baby what true love is, is priceless. <3

WOW!  You have a fantastic vet!  So glad he's had his surgery and is on the way to recovering. You'll be amazed at how well he'll adapt to that leg. Keep us posted on his progress.
