Remember, his improving will come in baby steps :) He is a VERY sick boy, but once he is well on the road to recovery it will go much faster, for now, baby steps.

Yes, a dehydrated cat or kitten will have barely any scruff. The skin is flattened when it has no water in it.
Fur is clumpy and ruffled. Scruffy appearance.

Be careful not to fill his tummy with too much water with no food in it, he needs some serious food intake too.
Question:
Will his still receive the nutrients he needs when I mix his food with water? I mixed water in his food earlier. But then I started getting concerned because what if it "dilutes" the food? If that makes any sense.

I still have pedialyte on hand and chicken broth. I don't want the chicken broth to go to waste though so any suggestions on what I can do with it ?

You can freeze the chicken broth in ice cube trays, then put them in a baggie and bring them out as you want to use them.

You can mix the pedialyte with his food instead of water.  It should also last in the fridge a few days to a week.  Maybe longer.

Yes! Great suggestion, freeze them in to ice cubes.

No, diluting his food is not a bad thing, he needs the fluids just as much. I would at this point dilute his food 2 to 1, 2 being the canned food and 1 part water, or preferrably pediolyte.

The label in the back of pedialyte bottle says to discard after 48 hours. Won't it cause harm or be ineffective? By tomorrow afternoon it will already be the 48 hours.

Oh and how can I balance between water intake and food? For example, how often should I give him water/pedialyte (perhaps x ml every x hours or x minutes) so he can have room in his belly for food because as you say I don't want to fill his tummy with water. Just enough to keep him hydrated

How often are you offering food?  How hot is it in your house?
I was about to ask a question regarding that. It's 81 degrees. I want to turn on the fan and have it face my bed but a fellow member recommended I shouldn't run a fan. I'm concerned about Anubis. If running a fan poses a risk to him I'm willing to deal with the heat, but what I'm concerned about is him overheating and becoming dehydrated again. What can I do to make him comfortable. That last thing I want is for him to overheat!

I offer foods every 3-4 hours depending on what time he finishes eating. I literally took an hour and half srynge feeding him he's so stubborn!!! My vet did not exactly tell me how often I should feed him. She jus wants me to use 1/3 of a can daily.

I would freeze the pediolyte tonight, make it ice cubes, then it won't expire. Same with the broth.

You can feed him every 2-3 hours, food and pediolyte mixed, not sure on the mls, maybe 4, depending on how often and how much he needs. I can't see him in person, so that might have to come from you.

I was thinking about my comment about mixing food 2 to 1 with pedi or water, but that's too thick for a syringe I'd think.

So why not take the can of food, and in the morning, dump it in to a baggie, take out 1/3 and put into another baggie, add your pedi into it, and your good for the day.

I would warm it before feeding though so it will go into the syringe easier and he will like it much more than cold.

That way the can is not being stored in the fridge for 3 days either.

Just dont reheat the entire days food in the baggie over and over, just take a bit out first.

That's because you are doing such a wonderful job, and probably saving his life, literally saving him.

You stopped his suffering and all alone, sacrificing sleep, etc to care for him.

The fan is alright if you need it, but I would not allow the air to blow on him.

When kittens are sick they get cold, despite the temps. If there is any fever at all it will make him feel cold.

He is skin and bones too, which will also cause him to feel cold.

Once he will get up and move if he doesn't like the fan, then it's fine, but until then, he will just lay there and be uncomfortable.

If you want it though, use it, just try to block off the cool air from blowing directly on him.

Remember to keep his water bottle warm when the fan is on so he has the option of laying by it if he gets too cold.

When i was nursing my VERY ill dying kitten to life i fed him human baby Gerber meats (the ones that come in tiny glass jars and are VERY mushy and liquid). One jar is $1 in Dallas. It is worth it because it is very EASY to put it in a surenge and forcefeed it. A LOT easier than anything else (and i tried it all: mushy wet food and other things). But my kitten liked it actually so much he started eating it himself after a couple of times even though he was very weak. I strongly recommend it unless you found another way to feed him.

Gerber baby food is sold at every drugstore and grocery store.

Also it will be easier to feed baby meat with a syringe. I know you said the cat doesn't like it and you are not having much luck with it, but trust me the consistency of this meat is such that it will be easier. You need to put the syringe under the kittens cheek (not try to open his mouth and get it in from the front). That way the kitten will open his mouth automatically (it is a reflex). That is when you grab his head gently so he doesn't move it all around and squeeze the food in. It will be messy but good part of it will get in. Don't be fast with it so he doesn't choke.

Baby meat might be good for him just double and triple check the ingredients and avoid any with onion or garlic in them. You are doing a good job from the reports you are giving here. Keep up the good work.

@lallorona  I just read this thread and Frankie, Xena ( my cats ) and myself are sending you good vibes !!!!
You are doing such a wonderful job with this little fellow!!!! I know it is a struggle now, but in the end, all your hard work and dedication will have been worth it.  I don't have experience with kittens so I have no advice to give. However, I know what it is like to be drawn to a cat, and the need to help that innocent creature when it seems like no one else will.  That is how me and Xena and became family.  Thank you so much for not ignoring him and helping him. You will be blessed for this.
Look forward to your next update.

There is no garlic in baby meat. Only meat, water and salt
