I agree with Handsome Kitty about letting people at work know. Borrowing your mom's phone is a great idea. Your friend and his partner will put your mind at ease. I have always received pain meds in liquid form. It's pre-measured and put in a syringe, so you just shoot it quickly into the mouth. You can ask about it when they come over. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Oh, my boss is hard headed. Lol he's a great person, don't get me wrong. But we need to have production done as quickly as possible so if I'm a little off it may hold back my crew and it may disappoint my boss. I get 2 breaks and a lunch so I'll just call during those times. I'm definitely going to ask and if it's separate I don't mind paying for it. After all I already saved up for their spay/neuter so I can just use money from there in case there are some things they don't cover. If I have to pay for the cone of shame and medication I do not mind that at all. I'm also going to ask if they weight them before administering anesthesia because I heard the dose depends on their weight.

They weigh them. I've always declined the cone and never had a problem. The cats will lick the spay and neuter areas, but most vets use dissolving, internal stitches for the spay, so they don't get pulled out. I've paid extra for the meds, but in Florida 10 syringes of metacam was about $7.

When I took my mom cat to my private vet for a spay, I dropped her off at 9:30am. They called me about 10:15 and said she was awake and could go home around 2pm. It's a quick surgery! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Ill ask for the cone anyway for extra precaution. If I see that there's no need for it I'll have it removed. I'm glad they both get to come home. The only vet clinic that is in the same city I live in told me that Anubis will come home the same day but princess will have to stay overnight. Not something I wanted to do but I was considering it since the prices were cheap and it was closer to my house but a relative of mine who used to go to that same clinic told me that the place looks very unsanitary and they use the same thermometers on the animals! & they place the cats and dogs in the same kennels. So I Started researching elsewhere. I was going to call the same hospital where I took Anubis but I'm assuming it's very pricey. And there's a vet in south LA and the price for each cat would be 50 so for me it wasn't a bad price. But then my friend told me about his TNR work and said he can help me out with them and I did not have to pay a thing. :) with that being said, at least I have extra cash on hand for more litter, cat food, etc... :D

Yes, it seems to be working out great! And you'll be able to remove the cone yourself. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Is it weird that I took a picture of Anubis' testicles? (Am I allowed to use that word here?) the reason for this is because I want to see the difference when he gets neutered.

Yes, you can use that word. Usually, they won't look all that different, but over time they shrink to almost nothing after neutering. Vets don't usually remove them anymore. They just make a tiny slit and remove the testicles within, and leave the sac intact.

I just finished watching a neuter video on YouTube. I cringed the entire time [emoji]128553[/emoji][emoji]128553[/emoji] but it has to be done. That vet in the video said most of the time they are given an injection so at home medication won't be necessary. Is this also true for spays?

My boys have never been sent home with medication, but the girls were. A spay is a bigger surgery than a neuter, and I think there's usually a larger incision?

You may need to ask for the pain meds for Princess if they don't automatically offer them. And no, the males do not seem to need extra pain meds. Their surgery is minimally invasive and they are given a pain shot that day.

Yeah I figured. Ill let my friend and his partner know I want pain medication for princess, preferably in liquid form because it's easier to administer. I'll give them the money if necessary when they come pick them up.

Pal and Snowleopard didn't come home with any meds and were racing about like regular pests within 48 hours, but it might be the vet used a long acting thing.   It was about 28 years ago as well and the surgery is quite different now, much neater.

I wish Anubis knew that it's my day off and i dont need to be waking up at 5 am lol :|
Maybe he knows it's your day off and he wants to make the most of it by having you awake for as long as possible.
I swear Mouse knows when I have a day off and has been doing that recently - sadly by launching himself enthusiastically at my right arm and going in to major attack mode.
(Or maybe he thought I needed to practice my 'ignore and say ouch' routine again as hadn't used it much since he was a youngster).

Could it be possible that Anubis is purebred? The other day my father had him on his lap and was petting him, & he was amazed at how beautiful the shading of Anubis gray coat was and said that maybe he's purebred. But I don't know. Whenever I have visitors they give me a lot of compliments about Anubis and tell me he's a beautiful cat. They love the color of his coat and eyes but whenever they ask me what breed he is I never know what to say to them. What would be written on his medical chart?
