I'm trying to. It's really hard for me to accept the fact that it's just for one night. I know the vets know what they're doing. They're the ones who sterilized the majority of the strays around my neighborhood. My main problem here is spending a night without them. I don't want to let them go. I know after getting them fixed all I would worry about is making sure their vaccines are up to date, which in most hospitals here they're cheap and some are opened Saturday's so I'll have a chance of taking them since those don't go by appointment. I don't have to worry about unwanted litter even if kittens are the cutest creations on earth. I don't have to worry about princess getting ovarian cancer, I won't have to worry about Anubis spraying which thankfully he hasn't done that. I would want to miss work that day but I don't know what excuse to give my boss. They'd want me to let them know a few days ahead and the problem is I don't know exactly what day of next week he will come pick them up. So I would have to call off the next day. I hope it's on Friday of next week since he's going to come for them after I get home from work which is around after 5 pm. It'll go by faster and I won't have to miss work. If I go to work I'll be so anxious and worried to get home that I probably won't be able to focus and all I'd want to do is go home but I also think if I go it can distract me. However after work it's the long wait for the bus that will only make me more anxious. I'm excited about having them fixed even though I'm also worried. But I'm mostly sad that they won't spend a night with me.

Can't you pull a sicky? Or go to work and feel unwell partway through the day and say you don't feel well. If they say what day bilious because you will be from all the worry. Do whatever you think will help you most.

I might just call and say I didn't feel well overnight. Anyway the supervisor loves how I work and never missed a day since I started there. So I hope they cut me some slack.

Or say that a family member underwent an "emergency surgery" of some sort which will partially be true. After all my cats are family. But I'm not sure if my boss would ask for proof.

Will be thinking of you over the coming day.  Stay busy and think positive - and you will have your lovely fur-babies safely back with you really soon.

Thank you.
Im trying to prepare myself for when I turn them in. I'm going to ask my friend to send me a photo of them that night and another one before surgery, and I'll ask if I can give them a call to see how they're doing. Or if I can at least visit them after surgery even if it's for 5 minutes and then they can bring them to me when they're ready. I need to know they're ok. I hope it's not too much to ask for.

I can understand the anxiety, you almost lost Anubis so many times and had to fight every day to keep him alive. That kind of experience would make many people super cautious and careful. I am sending you and the kitties good vibes

Do vets gently handle cats who try to break free? I'm worried about princess. She doesn't like strangers and she'll try to fight them if she feels threatened. I'm scared they won't know how to restrain her properly to sedate her if she's being difficult to handle. Anubis most likely will just hiss but won't attack. He's the shy type but makes friends easily.

@lallorona   Your vets should be well used to handling stressed cats, and also when preparing for surgery they will be handling her gently but firmly so that she is as calm as possible.   This is routine for vets who provide treatment for cats and they know how to handle to minimize stress for the cat, it is us humans who stress out more because we know what it's all about.   Believe that your vets know how to do their job and remember that you have the power of all Anubis (and Princess's loyal fans) sending out positive vibes for you all.  If you feel shaky during the day remind yourself of all those positive vibes flying about, and know you can check with the surgery if you need to.  They should keep you informed about how things are going and let you know when you can call through the day when you drop them off.

I am like that too, when it come to my cat I can some times be a little neurotic.
Im glad im not the only one then. I feel like I'm going to go insane. I get a lot of anxiety and I know for a fact on the day of their surgery I'm going to be panicking throughout the entire day.

Thank you. There are time I feel like I'm coming to terms with it but then I start worrying again. Why can't our kitties just be born already neutered/spayed so they don't have to be cut open? :'(

No. Don't lie. These are bad lies.
You're the one who's not feeling well and that's not a lie.
Once you start one you may be asked questions and you have to keep building on that lie and you end up being caught out.

Both of your cats will be fine. Vets perform hundreds of spays and neuters annually, and it is routine surgery for them. A neuter, in particular, is literally a 5-10 minute procedure. I suggest asking for pain meds for the first 3 days for a spay, as the incision site is sore, but most cats recover nicely and quickly.

Most vets, when asked, will call you after the cats wake up from surgery to give you an update. Mine always have! But the cats will be groggy the rest of the day, and will mostly sleep, so being at work to keep your mind busy may be the best choice.
