I live in the country and we don't have busy roads so I doubt he got hit by a car I also checked all the roads we've called him and still can't find him help?!

Leave something with your scent on it by your front door and keep an eye out for him. My friend's cat escaped one time and she tried putting a bag of her dirty laundry by her door, and when her mom came home she found the kitty inside the bag. Your cat might smell the familiar scent of home and come right back.

Try not to worry yourself sick! I know it's frightening (I'd be a mess if my kitties went missing) but maybe he's just out enjoying himself and he'll be back soon. If he isn't neutered he may have wandered a bit too far looking for a mate. Make sure people you know are keeping an eye out too, and try posting his picture online wherever you can. My area has a Facebook page for lost and found pets and people find their missing pets on that page all the time, so if your area has something similar you should post there immediately. You should also take his picture to any local shelters or veterinary offices in case someone brings him in.

I hope he comes back soon!

I'm so sorry your cat has gone missing. I really hope he finds his way home soon

Leaving a little used cat litter out may help give him a scent trail back home. It's also worth going round your neighbours and asking them to check their garages, sheds etc. When I was a kid we had a cat go missing - he turned up a month later, thin but fine. We think he'd got himself shut in somewhere.

Look under bushes, in hedgerows etc too. He could be closer than you think.

The likeliest thing is that he is shut in somewhere very close to home. Go to all your neighbours and ask them to look in their sheds and garages, anywhere that he might have found interesting. And really look. My daughter's cat went missing and he was eventually found 2 weeks later (still alive) in a shed only 100 yards away, that had been checked, but he was hiding and so was missed. He was eventually found by someone who heard faint meowing from inside. Prepare some posters and put them up wherever you are allowed (ask local shops), and tell the local vets, pharmacies, shelters, anyone. In the UK the Cats Protection League will help you too - look up your local branch.

Good luck - it is a horrible feeling, I have been through it too.

We've asked all the neighbourhood and looked in most of the sheds some twice and still no sign we've called him everyday and he's still not back I've tried putting used litter out and nothing. He hasn't been hit by a car I don't know where else he could be I'm so worried it's been 3 days since I last saw him.

Can you borrow or hire (from the vet or the Humane Society) a humane trap and bait it with some of his favourite food? Put something that smells of home on the bottom of the trap ( a blanket or one of your Tshirts) and set it near the house but maybe under a hedge or somewhere that he could be hiding?

Yes he is neutered but he's never gone missing this long before he's been gone before 2/3 days and I doubt a trap would work though as he always comes when called unless trapped in somewhere which we think he is as he's so tame he's almost like a dog and you can stroke his tummy and play with his paws without him making a fuss I don't know what else to do thank you for all the help though

Make a little poster with his picture and you phone number on it. Go further afield than your neighbours, and post copies of your flier in the houses of the surrounding streets. He has to be somewhere, keep telling yourself this and don't give up yet

We've also put posters up with pictures and phone number we live in a really secluded village and we've checked all the outer streets which is possible he could of gone on. We think he's trapped in one of the small farm buildings as it's currently harvest for them and although we asked it's likely that they haven't as it isn't exactly their priority at the moment. Here's a picture of the map of the village and I've drawn out his territory.

Oh dear, I am sorry if I have been stating the obvious. I see you have been doing everything. How close can you get to the farm buildings to sit and listen? Farmers, I know, often do not like people around, especially at harvest with all the machinery in action. I don't know what else to suggest right now,

The fact that you live somewhere quiet and secluded is reassuring. His curiosity probably got the better of him, and he probably wandered a little further than usual. Don't give up hope, our girls were purely house cats, and Kit wandered off from by our front door last month. We were devastated, she knew nothing of the outside World, it was a traumatising 36 hours- for her, and us, but she returned. We left her litter and food bowl at the beginning of the drive way to help guide her home. Stay strong, he'll be back.

We've asked the farmers mother who's looking after the farm as the farmer and wife have gone away as its to damp to harvest but there's no sign of him in the building. We've looked everywhere twice and we're starting to think he may be in a house locked up if he was in accident we would have seen his body but there's no sight :( thank you all for your help though if you've got any other suggestions then please comment thank you again everyone.

I'm on facebook looking out for our kitty and posting our kitty's details on relevant pages, and I just came across this page on facebook, which you can try posting on:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/600698229943816/

Never underestimate the power of social media. Over the past few days, I've seen so many people re-united with their pets because people have been sharing across facebook.

I'm from England, but live in Australia at the moment, so I know how remote and rural some places can be, but chances are, you'll probably find a specific facebook page covering your area even, it's worth a try!

To anyone who commented on my other thread about my missing cat thank you but unfortunately he is still missing. He has been for six days and if not found by Sunday we are getting a new kitten to try and fill the hole of joy which he gave us. But I'm worried that I will still be upset I don't know what's happened to him which I hate and he was such a lovely cat you could tickle his tummy and he would follow me where I went he could sleep around my neck and he always slept at the end of my bed and now at night I try and feel for him with my foot out of habit and realise he's not there :( I'm worried that when I get the new kitten I won't be able to build a bond like I had with my other cat it was such a strong bond and in many ways he was my best friend which sounds daft but I've had him for nearly 8 years and to have him go so suddenly is such a horrible experience I wouldn't want anyone to go through I didn't know where to post this but I would like advice on what to do. I've looked everywhere asked neighbours looked in sheds garages fields dikes trees all in a 1 mile radius and have posted posters everywhere and I feel so miserable with out him :(

All I can tell you is that he may still return.  My indoors only cat got out one time when I was on vacation, and she was outside for 3 weeks!  Once I got back I combed the neighborhood every morning and each dusk calling her name and nothing
.  I finally quit looking when one day I heard a pathetic little meow and recognized it immediately.  It was her!  She was back

So....even if you go ahead and get a kitten to fill the hole in your life, it doesn't mean your little guy won't be back.  And you are right, the kitten probably won't be the same as the other one, but I'll bet you will love him none the less.  Who doesn't love kittens.

I lost my soul cat to kidney disease about 3 years ago and thought I could never love any cat like I loved him, however, his two little "brothers" stepped up to the plate and both grabbed by affection.  I don't know what I would do without either one of them.  They are both completely different, and both different from the one who passed but I'm so glad all 3 have been in my life
(AND all the others who have come and gone as well)

Thank you that's bought me a lot more hope :) we're hoping he comes back and we have said we can cope with 3 cats as we still have his twin brother who is the complete opposite of him and never goes a wondering. Thank you again I'm guessing he will probably turn up when we've got a new kitten and then act as if nothing's happened as that's in his nature :')

I would really hold off on getting a new cat.  Missing for 6 days really isn't very long.  I had a cat that was missing for 5 months and returned and another for 8 months.  Yes, 8 months.  I was certain he was dead, but he came back.  If you get a new cat and this one shows up, you will have major introductions to go through.  You still will have major introductions with the current cat.  Also if the cat does come back you want to be sure he is healthy and he will need some extra support.

I really would try to wait and give it some more time.  My cat that was missing for 5 months was spotted over 3 miles away from my home.  Keep posting signs and going door to door with fliers.
