Here is one of our colonies in one section of the park. We feed at 4 other areas:

How many cats are you feeding overall in the park? Any new ones since you succeeded in TNRing the whole bunch?

We feed around 35 now. We've TNR'd 90+ but through attrition this is all that's left. We have 3 that need trapped, but no new kittens! These 3 are adult and showed up in the last few months.

I have heard they are trying to develop a birth control powder to feed through on feral colonies. I hope they are successful- this population boom has got to stop and soon!

Petsmart Charities is moving towards online grant applications for spay/neuter proposals that include the use of a chemical sterilant. Requests up to $10,000 can be made thru their application template which is posted on their website (www.petsmartcharities.org).

The first FDA-approved chemical sterilant is Neutersol (see www.neutersol.com for more information). The Petsmart grant application can be made for other chemical sterilants as those are approved by the FDA.

Oh my --- Who's in charge of development of this powder? I hope cat advocates are at least partially involved -- This is serious and the last thing vulnerable cats need is indifference on the part of profit-crazed chemical companies or malicious cat-haters or who knows what else

Well... my thinking here is that this isn't a euthanization powder! Being a sterilization powder, the only thing it would help prevent is more homeless cats. We can only hope that "malicious cat-haters" would pay to help chemically spay and neuter homeless cats, LOL! It would mean they're feeding them (at least one meal), and it sure would save the cat advocates a lot of money to spend in other places....
