I posted last year when we adopted Wiggles, that she has Cerebral Hypoplasia.  CH kitties have neurological issues and walk like they are drunk.  Balance is off and such.  Otherwise they are healthy.

About 3 months ago, she started chewing her one toe on her foot.  we took her to vet after vet and we get it healed and her bandage comes off only to have her chew it up again.

We have spent thousands on tests, biopsies, xrays, medication and office visits just to have it start all over again when the bandage comes off.

I am at my wits end.

I don't know what to do for her.  We even have her on a nerve medicine now which doesn't seem to be making a difference either.

Anyone ever experience the self-mutilation with their kitties?

I can when she goes for a change of bandage, right now its covered.  To describe what she does in the meantime, she seems to be targeting one toe in particular.  She will chew on her claw and while doing that she will pierce the top and sides of her foot with her fang.  She also  chews down into the meat above and below that claw-has her pad all torn up.

I told her vet perhaps she needs that one claw taken out, but she won't do it.  She now wants us to go to a pet dermatology specialist.

We have spent thousands of dollars already, I don't know yet-but I surmise that won't be cheap.

I put bitter apple on her foot when its unbandaged, but I was at work and forgot one day-thats when she chewed it up the last time.

I've never heard of this exact problem.  I'm going to recommend the cornell vet school of medicine consultation service.  They have both a behavioral service and medical, and the cost is a small fraction of what you've spent already and the initial call is free.

Thank you!

I am willing to try anything to help her.  I don't want to lose her, she is only 2 and has overcome so many problems in her short life.
