recently our kitty had a tail amputation and after much discussion with our vet we went ahead and had him rear declawed as well so he would not risk injuring himself as a result of allergy sores. Please, I know many people disagree with declawing and it would never have been my first choice, but after everything Daryl has been through we ultimately decided to go ahead with it. I know a number of you will not see this as a good decision and I respect that fully and completely understand where you're coming from. However, it's done and right now I really need some advice. It has been exactly one week since surgery and Daryl has been doing fine except tonight I noticed one of his toes is still a gaping wound. The others are swollen, which I would expect, but have otherwise seemed to close themselves up. This toe though is a giant open hole that almost looks to have bone on the other side. It doesn't smell strongly, I can detect a hint of smell when I put my face close but nothing overly foul. The bottom half of the wound is circled in what looks like puss except it's more crust-like, as if it is a clear scab. The wound is not bleeding or otherwise puss-filled. Please see the photos. He does not seem to be bothered by it and grooms it occasionally to keep clean but is not excessively paying attention to it. It's almost as if he barely notices it. Our vet is closed until Monday and I want to know if I can wait until then to take him or if I should take him to the emergency vet. Please advise! Thanks a million.
